We live in zone 10, I was wondering if anyone knows the % of people that get a liver transplant? Seems the odds are not very positive.

This link to region data for optn can drill down to % transplanted by organ http://optn.transplant.hrsa.gov/latestData/stateData.asp? type=region . Not that I think it really means that much. It is telling what % were transplanted post listing date. But you've got to figure that people with a MELD at listing of 15 or less really aren't (shouldn't be) expecting a transplant within one year.
Peace be with you,

Mike

You can request data at the optn.transplant.hrs a.gov. They don't give percentages but you can see how many transplants were performed last year by region, state and individual tx center. You can also search and see how many people are on the wait list with your blood type by zone, state, and center.

Thank you for this info Mike, but I'm still a bit unclear. Just what is this a percentage of, is it a percentage of people who are listed. If that is the case that really doesn't matter much does it? I think what I really want to know is what percentage of people who need a transplant die while waiting for it.

You might try generating several reports writing down the total and dividing. I did for OK: (all for liver) additions to waiting list = 165, transplanted = 69 (42%), died = 25 (15%). Or you could get waiting list by organ = 252 in which case the percentages are: transplanted = 27% and died = 10%. Who knows though if the number on the waiting list is the beginning or ending of the year.
Peace be with you,

Mike
