kware - you'll need to put in his birthday and Bili, Crt and INR and answer no to dialysis then on the left "Calc" - MELD will show on the right.... Smile Ru

The MELD score calculator is great! Didn't know there was such a thing, but I went to the website and put in my info from 2/3/12. MELD is still 8. Can a MELD change as quick as a month's time? Also, I thought it also took in other factors.

MELD scores often change quickly.

Although you can request extra MELD points from UNOS for certain conditions the MELD itself considers only the above labs.

A MELD of 8 is great!

When I was first diagnosed, mine was 22. Within 6 months it was down to 15, then a year 13-14. Never lower. However, I did have other complications, hepatic encephalopathy, a stroke, a shunt to bypass the liver, and hepatic pulmonary syndrome (which after confirmed, I received a transplant within a week). So yes it changes, the lower it is, the lower on the list you are placed. A score of 8 sounds good! Don't know where you live, but mine had to be 15 to be referred to the liver clinic.

I used the website given and it still shows 10. Thanks for the information. I'm not sure what the Oklahoma magic number is to be listed. Not that we are ready to be on the list, just good information to know.

I live in Ohio, but don't know if we're under the UNOS system for which other conditions might be included.

Sunnydaze-- I was told I was not allowed to have a shunt, that it would complicate things more. I am to see my hepa tomorrow so I have a whole list of questions for him, including why I can't have a shunt, seeing for about a year ultrasound has shown the blood flowing away from the liver rather than toward it.
