Hi Everyone, I just read this article about research on what a fatty liver does to change a person's metabolism. See this link for the article: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/releases/238749.php It says researchers are re-examining their thoughts on the connection between fatty liver and glocuse prodcution by the liver. I have always been told I was fat and that caused my diabetes and the fatty liver. Now, a new idea: People with fatty liver (however they got it) may cause the liver to produce more glucose causing the diabetes and injuring the liver. I have NASH and it is inherited from my father's side. I was biopsied at 30 and found NASH and cirrhosis. My enzyme counts were elevated from the time I first had a physical at the age of 23. Maybe I has cirrhosis at that time as well. I am 53, don't drink and never have, and there is no reason for me to have NASH other than being overweight and through heredity. BTW - my grandfather, father, and both brothers had cirrosis. Daddy and Granddaddy did not drink. Anyway, I am excited to hear that more research is being done to explain the causes of cirrhosis from NASH and how metabolism is affected!! My best wishes to everyone during this holiday season!
