Help! Need a doctor in Western Suburbs of Chicago

Hello everyone! I'm in desperate need of a GOOD doctor in the western suburbs of Chicago. I suffer from not only Chronic Pain but from Lupus. I am flaring (Lupus wise) right now and of course, this adds to my chronic pain. All the doctors I have right now, except my psychiatrist, have since dismissed me despite me following their every order, trying what seems like 5 million different medications, injections, and the TENS and suffering because my pain is WAY WAY WAY under treated. I'm at a loss and need help. The pain is ruling my life and I cannot have this. I am only 26 yrs old, I would like to try to live as much as I can and I have to work to keep my insurance but it is sooo difficult because of the pain.I've tried researching and found one doctor but she is difficult to get into, only works three days a week, and will treat chronic pain and my other issues, but I am wondering if anyone has a GREAT chronic pain specialist even anywhere in the chicago area at this point. The closer to me, the better, but I will travel a bit if I have to. Right now my pain is bad again because of the lupus but I have flares of horrible pain(minus any lupus issues) and I'm sick of the ER being the one to treat me instead of my darn doctors! I've been there 5 times this year, 4 in regards to the pain and hospitalized once and its only April. I want at least one doctor I can turn to or who isn't afraid to treat me. Any help I can get I will be so beyond grateful for. Thank you in advance!

Ready4Life,

Hello and welcome to the group. I hear your issues repeated time and time again. It seams to be getting harder and harder to find Dr's who are willing to take on and really help Chronic Pain patients. I'm so sorry for you and wish I could help with some names of Dr's but I'm from Canada and don't know what Dr's are near you. I hope someone will join in soon with some suggestions for you to look into. Take Care and I hope you feel better soon.

Kardie

Thanks Kardie for the support. That in itself is helpful. I find it very hard to find others who truly get it and now to have all my doctors I was working with basically give up because they can't figure out the issue........frustrating. My psychiatrist said if she could treat the pain she would, we tried many meds psych wise, but they did not work. If she were to prescribe pain meds, she would come under scrutiny of our wonderful government so she can't. My pain doctor is an IDIOT who doesn't listen or seem to care how much my pain affects my life or how much I'm in. I have good days where I don't need anything, and those are blessed days and I don't, and there are the days where I do need to take something because nothing else will calm the pain, but then, when I describe this, they make me feel like I'm a drug seeking addict just because they cannot find an answer to my pain and because I have a high tolerance from being on so many meds. I;m sorry, but on the bad days, 2 vicodins don't cut it, but again, I mention this, and I get that look. I have so many meds I could abuse, If I was going to, it would have been done already because of all this frustration, anxiety, and pain! I've asked my psychiatrist EVERY TIME i see her if I'm nuts, if its me, and she reminds me every time its not. My GP used to be a great advocate and listen to me but now even he blows me off.My rheumatologist has dismissed me because I do not have a typical case of lupus, and the neurologist I have is a f*n idiot too. He only focuses on the atypical facial pain I have instead of the big picture! That is controlled easily with gabapentin but that drug does nothing more for the rest of my pain. No one listens but the one doctor who can't help with this without getting in trouble! I feel like giving up, crawling in a hole, and just staying there but I know I can't, hence my reaching out. I am praying someone can help me, shine some light, give me a few names! Thanks for your response and support, it is truly appreciated and nice to know there are people who do stand by my sideSmile

Hi and welcome to the group, and Kardie is right , due to addicts misusing meds it is very difficult to find help from a dr. for pain, you may want to have your pcp get you into a pain management clinic, they do prescribe and treat, it is your best bet. I am wishing for you to find a good dr. and all the best in your search, Much love , Debi blflwrwelcme 9275b79f8ffa737f138c53d295610a1a

Ready4Life,

You have every right to be frustrated but don't give up on finding the right Dr and the right combination of drugs for your needs. As unfortunate as it is that the medical profession is scared to prescribe the pain meds needed at times it is understandable Because of the abuse by some of the high profile people there has been alot of pressure put on our Dr's.

Keep pushing till you get the help you need. There is someone out there that will help you its just the matter of hinding them. I wish you all the luck in the world in your search. Take Care!

Kardie

Debi,

I am in a pain clinic already. My doctor has done nothing for me but give me the run around and avoided prescribing any opiates. We have LITERALLY tried everything else but nothing works. So now that we are at the point were there is no choice but to use those for my pain, it is like he has dismissed me. I have had 5 appts with him and nothing has come of it. I don't qualify for any of the pain management programs through the clinic because my pain is not under control but it is not under control because he wont control it!!! AHHHH.......like a ridiculous merry-go-round. So this is why I am on the search. I have truly lost my faith in doctors, but I have to find someone and yes, I am seeing my GP tomorrow as I have to for a check up from my ER visit, and yes, he will give me another name of a place but I was hoping to find some input from people who have found successful treatment or at least a Dr. who will treat chronic pain and isn't afraid to use opiates. Thank you both for your kind words and support! I am so glad I found this nbecause I'm really going through a tough time!

Hi there,

I live in the Chicago area too. Crazy huh, you'd think it'd be easy finding a good doctor in such a big city!

I think I've found a good one. I have been to him a few times now. I really like him. He was referred to me by a client of mine that has seen him for years and years. He listens, is open to all kinds of treatments and has over 30 years experience.

Edited- sorry! Didn't know not to put dr info. Please send me a message if you'd like the dr.s info.

Another woman with myositis that I connected with online sees a dr. at the same practice, and she says the same things about him.

It's very hard when you are feeling so lousy and then top it off with not having a doctor to rely on to help!

I wish you all the luck! I think you will be very happy with this doctor!
