How many of us suffer from anxiety and other disorders due to our pain?

I suffer from chronic depression and anxiety. They were both actually diagnosed before my chronic pain started, but I can honestly say that they have both gotten worse since. I am so glad that I have a doctor that understands how narcotics can effect these conditions and is not judgemental. I am also very thankful for these discussions because they remind me daily that I am not crazy.

Kelly, you definitely are NOT crazy! I often feel anxious when the pain is more intense. I feel like I just want to crawl out of my skin. I never had that feeling before being diagnosed with fm although I do have a strong personality. In fact, some say I am bull-headed. LOL Let's just say that I am a person with strong convictions. One of those convictions includes being in control of my life instead of the pain controlling me. I don't always win that battle but at least I can say that I try. I find that I am still learning how to live my life while acknowledging the pain. Does that make sense?

Also, I am glad that you have a supportive dr - that makes all the difference in the world!

I too suffer from depression and anxiety. I am depressed more than anxious. But my anxiety really shows through when I'm trying to cover up my pain. Like in front of my family and friends. -Does that make sense? When explaining it, it sounds strange. But it's true.

I suffer from some pretty nasty depression. Here, because I am a psychotherapist I think I am beyond that. I was crying at the drop of a hat. I couldn't pull myself together. My husband and a very nice woman doctor who came to see me at my home go me to understand that I too am normal and that depression is a normal reaction to pain, regardless of education. I am on Cymbalta and my dose will be going up to 60mg daily starting this weekend.

I too suffer from anxiety that has led to some full blown panic attacks. When they get into the panic area I feel very claustrophic and feel like I need to get out of the apartment. If I take the lorazepam at the very beginning of the anxiety attack, I can usually head off a full blown panic attack. I take the lorazepam on PRN basis.
