Hi! My name is Alex and I am 20 years old. When I was 14 I herniated a disc in my back due to a cheerleading accident. I also have degenerative disc disease in several of the discs in my lower back. I have a bone spur in my neck and occasional sciatica.

My pain was pretty manageable until this year. Right now, I am in constant pain.

I am a member of another forum on this site and I have found it very helpful. I wish the best of luck to everyone here and I will keep you in my prayers!

Hi Alexandra. You are so young to have to put up with this kind of pain. Do you go to a pain management doctor or ortho?

I have all the same as you, I personally HATE the sciatica almost the worst. It seems like NOTHING helps!

Glad you are here.

Thanks! I am glad I am here as well.

Yes, it is especially hard to be so young. I used to be a competitive dancer and I can't do that anymore. I miss dance so much! But I worked on grieving the losses and moving on - the best thing we can do is try to be happy with the good things we have. (Do you know what I mean?)

I go to a pain management doctor. I think I need to increase the strength of my medication, though. It is not working anymore : (

The sciatica is the worst! eek! I'm sorry you have to deal with it!

Sorry to hear about all your pain. Hopefully, you have a doctor's appt. soon so you can get that pain under control.

I love your personality! You're so optimistic and positive! Keep that up! Some days it's the only thing that gets us through the day.

Thank you fibroforever! That means a lot. And you are def. right - sometimes it is the only thing that keeps us going. It took me a while to learn that (I used to be pretty bitter and angry) but as time went on I learned to try to find the silver lining. I hope to someday help people in similar situations as mine and use my struggles as a way to do so.

And your quote is awesome! Now it's one of my new fav. quotes : D

Keep staying positive; it is what gets us through life! Don't give up on new medical advances and if your interested exploring "alternatives" I love massage therapy (as my pain in muscular) and my accupuncturist has helped me decrease the amount of pain meds I take. In fact I told her I refer to her as my pain management doctor (she is actually a MD, and that is what she is treating me for).

Hang in there, take it day by day!

gentle hugs
