I just dont know what to do anymore about the chronic pain I am in. A bit of history- I have severe spinal stenosis, advanced degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia, cervical spondylosis, severe arthritis in knees, wrists, hands and ankles. Plus chest pain syndrome, have chest pain chronically. I have a lot of heart issues (aneurysm, bicuspid aortic valve, recent found v-tach on pacemaker interogation, SVT).

I take Cymbalta, which kind of helps my leg pain from neuropathy. I take muscle relaxers and pain pills at night plus Klonopin. I am in so much pain anymore I can barely walk or stand up or even walk up my steps to go to bed. The shortness of breath is awful, it sets me into some sort of chest pain and tachycardia and then my whole cycle starts.

I am not a candidate for any kind of back surgery because of my aneurysm and history of blood clots. So meds are my only choice, except nothing really helps.

To make things even worse I have no insurance and I desperately need to see a psychologist or psychiatrist and either an ortho or neuro.

I need help!

Whew, thanks for letting me vent.

Oh Debbi, I am so sorry to hear you have no insurance!!! Are you trying for disability? Thats the only way I have any insurance. Maybe you can try different meds? With the pain you are describing, you are severely under medicated. I also have Congenital Stenosis, DDD, Spinal arthritis..etc, et al, ad nauseum. I take MS Contin and that has worked wonders for me. I think, and I am NOT a DOCTOR, a narcotic or opiate of some sort would help you. I do take other meds besides the MS Contin, but that is the one that really made a difference in my pain management.

Hope this helps a little.

Debbi-

You vent anytime! We're here for ya!

I'm sorry you're in so much pain. It just plain bites doesn't it!

Do you have a bathtub? I'm in what seems to be constant chronic pain. I spend 3 to 5 times a day in the bathtub. I put Epsom Salts in it a lot.

I go to water therapy when I can get there. The water is 92 degrees at the pool I use.

Anyway, warm and hot water seem to really help me. Maybe try it and see if it helps you.

Hang in there! And vent all you want.

Amy

Lorilocks, yes I have applied for disability. I am in the appeals stage now. While the money per month would help tremendously, what I really need is the Medicare so I can get some medical help.

Unfortunately I am allergic to morphine and fentanyl(duragesic) so my only hope is Vicodin or Percocets which I take.

Fibroforever, I do have a bathtub, well actually two of them. I do soak every day and night for as long as I can, esp before bed, then go to bed where my heated mattress pad is waiting for me. I feel as if my body has been beaten up all the time. So painful for someone to touch me

What about Dilaudid, or, or...There HAS to be something out there, you should NOT have to be in such pain!! I mentioned Morphine because it is so cheap. I DO very much understand the wanting Disability for the insurance...you cannot get adequate care without it Keep up the battle to get it!! Maybe once you do, you might think about asking for warm water pool therapy. I is the most wonderful PT I have ever had, NO pain, I amlost never want to leave the pool it feels so good. Maybe you can find a warm pool to take a soothing dip in? not to swim...just to stretch, walk, be weightless...it REALLY helps.

Best of luck

Thanks Lori, I will see if I can maybe join the Y and get in the pool there sometimes. That is a good idea.

I dont know about the Dilaudid....I am not sure I could function on it.

with the right dose, and/or in combination with other drugs I bet you could find a happy medium. I started out with just vicodin and soma, tried all sorts of things. I really did not want to be on Morphine or anything like it because of the same fears you have..Functioning, dependancy, etc..BUT I did finally try MS Contin (Morphine sulphate). It is the ONLY thing that actually relieves my pain. It is time released and I do not get dopey at all, in fact the other pills make me more dopey than that. Maybe dilaudud or SOMETHING can work that way for you.

2 other things...If you go to the Y make sure the water is very WARM. 92-98* is perfect, cool water will make you hurt more! Also, if you are taking vicodin, maybe you can ask for Norco. It is the same as vicodin, but double the hydrocodone, and half the amount of acetaminafin.

Best of Luck,

Thanks Lori! I need a refill on my vicodin so I will ask dr if I can get Norco instead! I think I took this once a long time ago.

I have been on the phone all this morning looking for a pain dr or clinic to see me at a discounted or free basis. I have a few good leads, but I am too tired now to continue. Will have to start up with this search again Monday.
