Hello,

This is the first time I've posted on this forum. I mostly post on the migraine and New Daily Persistent Headache forum. I suffer from chronic facial pain in which I'm currently seeking treatment.

My problem is.. I lost my job over a year ago when my FMLA expired and I picked up COBRA which is through Blue Cross of Michigan. It is expiring on September 3rd. I applied for major medical through United Health care and was turned down. (Blue Cross doesn't have anywhere near a decent policy so it wasn't worth it to even apply). I was told by independent insurance agents that due to my pre-existing condition I would probably not be able to get major medical insurance.

Question: Have any of you gone through this? Have any of you been turned down by one major carrier only to be picked up by another? I'm just trying to decide it it's worth the hassle of filling out another application with like AETNA or Humana..etc..

(A little more about me.. I'm from Michigan. I receive social security disability but I make just over what is required for medicaid so I don't qualify for that and medicare doesn't kick in until you've been on disability for 24 months. That, for me wouldn't be until August, 2013. Thanks for your advice!

Jill

Wow what a terrible system. Sorry I'm Canadian and it always upsets me so much to read that sick people cannot get the help they deserve even if they are on Disability. You make over the amount from Disability to receive medicaid? That's crazy. Are you working any hours or just getting your Disability? I get Disability in Canada and I get 1100$ per month + 200$ for my special diet. You don't go too far with that. It's called you pay what is necessary and hoard the rest in case of tougher times/emergencies. Anyways sorry I can't help but I really hope you're able to get some form of insurance. It makes me so angry that the US treats the rich while the poor and the sick don't get treated...
I am not a medical doctor. Anything said on here is my personal opinion. Seeking help from a health professional is always for the best!

** I have a broad knowledge about psychoactive medications and the mind since I have studied psychology/therapy. Any information that I give concerning any medication is to be considered generic since everyone reacts slightly differently to any foreign substance. I do not fully know your health history/case. Any suggestion that I made which peaked your interest MUST be discussed with your doctor. Do NOT change your medication intake based on any information which was not provided by your doctor. All that we can offer on MDJ is suggestions to discuss with your physician.
