MDJunction to me

carmen33"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

Hi,

First off I am not sure if this goes here so please forgive me but I need a little help. Some history on myself. In 2004 I was in a car accident which caused back pain. I went to a chiro and maybe the er 2 times at the most. Then in 2008 I fell down stairs at work. I got a bulging disc. Since then I have been in horrible pain and could never find a doctor to care. They would always say you can take 20 people and half of them have bulging discs and none of them know it.

At that point I was at the mercy of a workman comp doc who kept saying nothing was wrong with me even though the mri said I had a bulging disc.

Since then I had been to the er several times because I would have unbearable pain episodes. That went on for 6 or 7 months. Then I was fortunate enough to get released from workman comp care(which I sued and won a lawsuit). After that I was free to go to any doctor I wanted. I was lucky enough to find a good pain management doctor. He had a test done and agreed and said I needed surgery. I had surgery called a discotomy with a fusion. For a few months after that there were problems and had to continue with pain management.

Well about october of 2009 I just stopped going to the doctors and have been off meds since then and well have been doing ok dealing with the pain cause it's not going anywhere.

Well may of this year I fell down stairs and hit my head into concrete. Well I was rushed to the ER. They did a ct scan and found I had a 2mm bulging disc in my c5-c6 disc. I don't have insurance right now so I have to keep going to the er. The docs see the mri report and agree it's there but they keep saying what I was told in the past when it was my back. There could be 20 people and hald of them have bulging disc and that half not even have pain.

Well that's all nice and all but I do have pain. I get insurance 7-1-10. Should I just deal with this pain and wait til then to go see a doctor? I don't want to keep going to the ER cause I don't want to look like a drug seeker, but in the same breath I hurt and don't know what to do.

What are some good views on this cause I really don't want to go to jail either for being in real true pain.

Hello behringtheweb

Welcome here!

When your insurance does start up I would want to find out why you keep falling over do you have dizzy spells? get light headed or black out I know we all fall at times but you have fallen hard enough twice to really hurt yourself I would look into that.

If you really cant wait untill July I have bulging discs in my neck C2 thru C7

I know near were I live if you dont have insurance you can walk into a doctors office you pay about $100 tell them the situation see what meds they will give you other then that the E.R is the next option.

Good Luck!

Hi I fell because of unbalanced steps on may 1st. My previous one was because I was carrying heavy things. The issue I am having pain in my back that I guess will always be there and I am ok with that.

The problem now is I am having horrible neck pain. It radiates into my left houlder and shoots horrible pain into the back of my head.

I have tried clinics or to get setup but they are booked all the way til september. I mean it's only a month til my insurance kicks in from work, but what I am scared of is because I had to use the er several times or urgent care that whatever doctor I go to will pull my medical records and blow me off. But I do have proof that I am having true problems.

a month is a long time to wait when in pain you know not all doctors are going to judge you by whats in the notes they can tell when your in pain, I would go and get some help If you see them looking at the notes and you feel that this is how they are looking at thing then you can at that point say that this is what you fear and that you have been in agony and keep leaving it because of this, you have nothing to lose.

some doctors are sympathetic to a person who is genuinely in pain dont suffer just because you assume all doctors are going to be the same.

take care

Do you have any Urgent Care clinics in your area? You can go to one of them, explain your situation to the Doc and see if he can prescribe 4 weeks worth of medications for pain until you get insurance. Urgent Care clinics are more flexible than ER's and they will treat you if needed. See if that helps. Take care,
I am a 51 year old female that is in intractable pain, I've had 5 spinal surgeries including a 3 level/360 fusion from L2 to L5. The surgery failed and I am in miserable pain 24/7. I had an SCS implanted in June of 08, and I want to have a trial for the pain pump, but it will have to wait until I move... I am a cancer survivor x 2 and right now I am convalescing at home from a surgery on my R leg, were I had plates and screws installed.

I'd like to know why these doctors all say the same thing to a person in pain: "You have bulging disks/ nerve compressions/ bone spurs/ etc showing up on MRI? That doesn't mean anything! 50% of all people who get an MRI will have worse things show up and have no pain that they're seeking treatment for whatsoever".

How is that helpful to me? I'm standing in front of you telling you I'm in terrible pain, and you're basically calling me either weak or a liar. Sorry, that's my pet peeve.

Last time my pain doctor told me that his MRI looks worse than mine, I told him, "Yeah, but I haven't been able to work in 2 years, and you work every day, so I guess we'll have to admit that I'm worse off than you!

Done venting!

Cathy

I agree that an urgent care or a walk-in clinic is a good place to start. I'm going to a pain management specialist for the first time later this month. I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm hopeful. When you get insurance maybe try that? I'll certainly be keeping folks here updated on how it goes.

And, I'm new too, and so far it's been very constructive...

I wish you luck,

Jen
