I had my neck broken at age 8,and was not taken to any doctor! Within 6 months I began getting horrific headaches,so intense I couldn't walk/had to crawl to get to the bathroom, to vomit. After more than a year, I was finally taken to a local town Dr. He was a wise old country Dr, who after trying only a few meds. determined that the headaches were not common migraines. It took 20yrs.of being passed around like a hot potato, from Dr. to nero, headache specialist, each of them basically using me as test subject w/ cocktails of drugs; none of which ever giving anything made for pain. While receiving acupuncture the man couldn't get the needles in the back of my neck! He said {THERE'S BONE WHERE IT SHOULD NOT BE!} and advised me to find a Dr.who used a florescope to get at my c.3&4 vertibrae. I did find such a Dr...who instantly asked {HOW DID YOUR NECK GET BROKEN,WHEN YOU WERE A YOUNG BOY?} he could tell it was an old injury; healed extra thick & pinches my spinal cord.thus pain!

I am sorry this sounds especially painful and frustrating! Since they finally came to the correct diagnosis of the problem have they decided how to treat the broken disks and treat the headaches associated with it? I hope you and your doctor can find a way to at least alleviate some of your pain.

WOW!!!! I cant believe that doctors that was prescribing you medicine, didnt have enough sense to check your neck. I would imagine that you told them about the injury when you were 8. Even if you didnt, they should have did tests which could have hinted that you had a neck injury. Well at least they found the source of your pain. I still dont know my source of pain which I have been living with non-stop for the past 5 years.

After my cervical bone fusion...neck surgery. I started having severe migraines and radiating pain because now I have a damage nerve in my neck and in the upper back.

Sometimes we have to know just as much as our doctors. Research yourself and keep up with all the x-rays and reports of what's going on with our own bodies (to make the right choices for our health and those life changing decisions). Those reported dictations and x-rays will play a big part in winning your case for disability as it did with me, so maintain your own records…keeping a history of all medications and a list of all doctors.

I began learning about my health… that's how I found out that the doctor had performed my surgery on the wrong side making my condition worse.

In my case I have radiating pain from my neck down to my shoulder into my right hand.

Since the surgery, I come to realize, that when my neck is inflamed… it sends severe pain like migraines into my head which is sensitive to the touch, pain travels from my neck, into my right shoulder blade, then into my right hand. (Where I also had a carpal tunnel surgery)

With a damage nerve… the pain can seem everywhere...try using ice on your neck and see if that will reduce the headaches...you first have to find out where the pain is coming from...I put Ice on my neck … it worked better than medication...the pain start leaving from my head, shoulder and hand.

Things to try:

1 Reduce surgeries and medication (each surgery: reduces your mobility, increases arthritis, injures other disk below... because now they become weak and degenerative) which will cause other problems.

2 Try water therapies

3 Exercise daily… 30 minute walk daily is good, Yoga

4 Maintain a healthy weight to reduce the pain level.

5. Eat Healthy

6. Stay away from stress... it is a killer and will inflame those injured areas greatly

7. Keep an atmosphere of those who encourage, support and uplift you and understand.

8. Too much medication will effect your body also creating other problems...because I have chronic pain, I only take the medicine if I'm at a level higher than 7...if it doesn't reach 7...I try other normal ways, as I've mention above or methods that helped me...like just using Ice...or relaxing in warm water.

These are the things that have helped me since my surgery in 2003

Hope this helps.
