I was wondering how any of you deal with this kind of sleepiness and how do you manage to fight it long enough to go to work and still be able to do house work and most importantly get your butt up long enough to feed yourself. I may have fibro and the pain is one thing but I feel like I am getting more and more sleepy with each day and am paranoid that I am going to start calling sick to my job and or become sick from lack of prober nurishment. I am taking Lyrica and it has helped to but "some" of the pain and sleepiness into the back ground but I am feeling it creep back; Mostly the fatigue. I will be asking for a med tweak but am still concerned about the sleepiness as it does feel like I am going under for surgery and want to know if there is any kind of advice for this. I could go on and on but I am sure that you all know how I feel.

Any ideas would be great.

Well unfortunately I CANT work anymore due to the fact that I would dose off at work and feel like I was about to all the time (among other problems)At home, when I take my meds, when they kick in, I lay down and take a nap. Then when I get up, I make myself a cup of coffee and try to get one thing done at a time. It is very frustrating. that is for sure. I would love it if anyone else could help us too.

Well I am on my third job now because of "whatever" I have and am only working about 18 hours a week but spend basically ever non working moment in bed. Yesterday I was only up for about two hours in total. It is as if the only way I have been able to still go to work is because I sleep ever moment while I am not there. I was working about 70 hours a week at a factory doing major labour when I got "sick". That was over a year and a half ago. I try to get up sometimes but the anesthetic style sleepiness pulls me back under. I cannot afford to quit this job too as we are already going to the food bank as it is. We cannot cut anymore of our costs and don't have anymore rooms to rent out. I am also worried that we will be losing our tenant soon as they can't stand the mess of the house any longer If they move out then I will lose their computer and internet which is how I "try" to stay in contact with my family as it is free and we cannot afford the phone bills (amoung other things). It just would be a "bit" easier if my body didn't itself go to sleep. I feel like someone else has the on/off switch and no matter how hard I fight it sometimes, I have no say. Is this what chronic fatique is or should I get my doctor to look into other things and or switch my meds? I know everyone is different and that assumingly there are no medical professionals in here so to speak but.....

I honestly think you need to maybe consult your doctor and tell him what you are experiencing. It may be something entirely different!

Well thank you Debbi for saying something to my thread, it is very muchly appreciated. I have somewhat told my docs about this but I have so many more pain symptoms that I think they are looking at those first. Not to mention I never really noticed how "sleepy" I was before they gave me Lyrica which somewhat has dulled my whole body pain. I mean I did know but the pain was so much more that I couldn't really see past it.

Anyway, one day I will know I guess and thank you again for your posts.

You are welcome! I refuse to take the Lyrica. I take too many pills now that alter my thinking and alertness. It really sucks to have to take them doesnt it?

Realmseer,

I have had CFS since 91 and fibro for about 10 years. I know exactly what you are talking about. It is unlike any kind of sleepiness you have ever experienced except for before surgery. I have this all the time and it doesn't matter what medications I am taking. I have had this going on for almost 2 years now. I have fallen asleep talking to someone on the phone, sitting at the computer, standing up, in the shower, and the scariest thing is while driving. I have also started to experience dizziness. And I had a Dr. appt a few weeks ago and started down the road, the sleepiness was so bad and then the dizziness started. I have never been so scared in my life. I turned around and came home and I wasn't sure I could make it. I have fought sleep so many times driving it isn't funny. But I have been able to fight thru it. But, there are times when you just can't. Your body wants to sleep and it is going to sleep. It is very frustrating. I have mentioned this to all my docs and they never even comment on it. So, I guess this is just something that goes with the territory. I just won't drive anymore if I am feeling this way. I will cancel an appt. or whatever. That last time scared the crap out of me and I won't ever go through that again. So, yes it is just part of CFS. I guess not everyone experiences it. I am glad for the ones who don't. It isn't a fun part of it at all. I cannot work anymore so I don't know how that would be but I do know I would get fired for sure. I lost my job about 4 years ago because I had 4 surgeries in 2 1/2 years. I don't know how you are working but you have my admiration for doing so. I am on my 3rd appeal for disability.

Pam
