I am finding that what has happened to me in the past still strongly affects me today, however I don't understand why. I thought I had moved on and forgot about it and gotten over it all, but I guess not. I just can't seem to wrap my mind around how, or why the past still bites me now and again. What are your thoughts and ideas to help overcome this, has it or is it still happening to you?

Healing from abuse is a lifetime journey, there's no two ways about it. Things come in cycles. As soon as you think that you've deal with one aspect, three more come to remind you your not done yet. But, the important thing is to just keep going. As long as we keep going, they haven't won.......the power is ours now.

Is there a chance that these cycles will eventually come to an end? It just seems that they keep going and have no ending. I guess its just frustrating because I get put into this emotional state of mind where I find myself wanting do more harm to myself than anything.

There have been some social studies done lately that indicate that we are not in as much control of our feelings as we would like to believe. Unfortunately this information is not widely spread to the general population.

Much of it has to do with the fact that our bodies and our minds are much more connected than we think. We are social animals and have mental and emotional needs and most deal with that vulnerability by going into denial, at least temporarily.

Some have found that just going with the flow and not focusing on changing ourselves makes the journey a bit easier. Also some including me find that keeping busy doing something you love to do helps as well.

My main leadership role is to listen, encourage, and keep the peace....It isn't to give medical or legal advice...Please note...I am not a Doctor...nor an expert...I am here for the same reason all of you are...to receive and give encouragement.

i definitely agree about the healing process going in cycles. each time it cycles (if you've been working on it) it should be a little better each time. that's not to say it's not going to still hurt or bother you, but you should be able to deal with it easier each time.

Yes I understand and agree that it's a healing process, but how do you work on it? I have been to see some counselors, but each time I would begin to finally open up, my family realized that I was going to spill everything, so I never got the chance to tell them. And when I went to staff members at my school or friends, the cops would get involved and my family would lie there way out of it and I would get the punishment as soon as the cops left.
