Does anyone know if Celiac causes migraines and makes eyeballs really hurt when you move them?

Never heard of those symptoms - you may be suffering from the shock of finding out you can't eat wheat bread any more, I stand and stare at the rows of sandiches in shops sometimes, but I daren't have them..... I am in England so I presume like most people on here you are American so I can't help you with the bread shop, but I can tell you the nearest I have come to a decent sandwich is my own home made, although you have to eat it with a knife and fork as it is so soft or Somerfield supermarket do Ciabata's that really are nice as a warm roll with home made soup or bacon etc. Most of the bread in shops is so dry and falls apart - so useless for sandwiches and you have to toast them all - so try toast with loads of butter and a good marmalade that is very nice.

Good luck Kerry

LOL, I'm trying to keep my sense of humor thru this. I went to Trader Joe's and all I bought was some fresh flowers. The only loaves of bread were like bricks. i was so overwhelmed i didn't know where to begin. I'm getting a bread maker today so I guess this is where i'm starting. i've had migraines for 30 some yrs and am really hoping they are tied to the gluten along with alot of other issues.

Do you have any suggestions for a good GF Brand Names book and can i find them in a store?

Hugs, donna

Hi

You will get there in the end, try Amazon on line for Gluten Free Cook books.

It does take time though, well I am sure you will find out your headaches are caused by gluten loaded foos - migraines are well known for being caused by food - especially chocolate or cheese - so why not gluten in your case. Good luck, well done for getting the bread maker, home made bread is far nicer/softer than shop bought and you will be able to experiment with the recipes and make other things with your bread maker too.

You're getting there - take care

Hi Kerry, I know I have high hopes but I am praying going GF is going to heal me of everything including other DX's like the RA. I seem to get worse every year and am at the point I am pretty much done.

Do you get flulike symptons? Sore skin, muscles, headaches, stomach aches, just all over hurt? I used to only get it a few days a week, then it was 4 or 5 days, now it's everyday and hard to accomplish anything. I so pray Gf gets rid of all this.

hugs

Unsure Hi

I have had it worse; a lot worse than I get it now and was more like an invalid but i got worse because the Drs wrongly diagnosed and said I had Crohn's disease, I spent almost a year in hospital and my 2 children were really suffering so I asked them to operate, I was unable to eat was on a drip most of the time. They agreed and then found I didn't have Crohns after all, I'd lived like that for 14 years, they removed a large part of my bowel which was messed up by then so I don't know if it was the hemi colleptomy that caused the gluten problems or whether I have always had gluten problems ( I started to be ill when I was 18 yrs) I do belive the op probably caused the lactose probs so I don't eat Dairy as I don't make enough lacase to deal with the lactose but that is because of it being removed during the op,.

To cut a long story short don't be despondent, go with the gf diet I am convinced these other things are caused by it or by the stress of the allergy, it does take time though but gradually improves and as you relax more the other things will improve too, keep in touch let me know how you are going.

Go shopping in a good food shop and find somethings gf that you can have as treats - that will make you feel better. I love strawberries and raspberries so they brighten up my day, I found some nice crusty bake in the oven ciapattas and they are lovely too with roast or boiled meat or home made soup, soon your friends will become curious and want to try some of the new things you are eating and you can give them some and feel part of the gang again.

Oh wow and what do you know we have been distracted from all the ailments and they are not such a big problem as they were. Go on - you can do it.

Kerry, wow i"m sorry you went thru all that. That is horrible. Was it all just celiac and they missed it?

I spent months in and out of hospitals in 06 for anemia, weight loss, dehydration, and severe joint and muscle pain that all stemmed from waking up one day with abdominal pain so bad I couldn't walk upright. They tested for alot except Celiac, found nothing, and I haven't been right since. Thank god for a good neuro now.

I couldn't find a bread maker so I ordered one online and a couple books. Thanks for the tips. I actually met a wonderful lady with Celiac at a store and she's been emailing me bread recipes. I've lived with this stomach pain for so long it's going to be nice to get rid of it.

Hugs

Oh bless you! - I too hope your stmach settles, I do know how it is and what a relief it will be for you - in time.

I used to study cook books because I wanted to eat so much and was on a drip so long I had to feast on the food with my eyes, they used to laugh at me in hospital - laying on my bed taking in cookery books - every cloud has a silver ling though after I had the hemi colleptomy I could at least eat again and I was broke through being unwel so long - so I went to college and got Ciity and Guilds Distinction for cookery - I also got teaching credits and could teach cookery. Huh! It was shortly after that they took cookery off of the curriculum here in England. I know I have a guardian angel gets me through but there must be a shower of meteorites following me too and they rain on me every so often.

Any way I have been a lot better since the op but had severe loose bowel, most ghastly smellies and really loud frequent banging wind, oh!!!! So embarrassing... Cos I am quite a reserved lady really in all that time as with you they never tested me for Celiac either, now I have put myself on gf and the horrible aspects have deceased apart from I still go 2 or 3 times a day - due to only having a small bowel now.

It does take time though so please do persevere with it - never give up and I am sure you will improve - becoming gf is a long process as you have to rid your body of all in there (gluten) and then not be tempted to eat anygluten loaded food, and you have to get used to reading labels as you often believe there wouldn't be gluten in things that there are gluten in.

Let me know how you are getting on won't you.

Best wishes

Kerry
