I had cataract surgery 2 weeks ago, I still have blurriness in my left eye since the surgery and still have some double vision. The first two days after my surgery I had flashes of light coming from that eye, it was like strobe light, ugh. I asked my doctor about that, he said I guess that is ok, huh??? My doctor doesn't have many answers for me, perhaps it is because each person heals differently after that kind of surgery. I just want to be able to see clearly again. It makes me a bit off balance when I walk because of the blurriness. At least I can drive now, last week I couldn't at all. He did tell me 'though that he thinks I will be more near sighted now than before, so I guess that goes with the territory after that kind of surgery.

after this experience i dont want the other eye done. it has been a night mare as far as i am concerned. the doc said that he did a stint in psychiatry and the lights in my eye are all in my head. i went home and had a good cry. i still see the flashes of light it has been about 2 weeks now still cant see very well out of that eye. i know that i wont go back to him. for the other cataract he leaves alot to be desired. after all im nuts right? so he said.

No, it's not all in your head, I had an internist tell me the same thing about needing a shrink when he couldn't find the problem I was having, I never went back to him. I found the problem myself, it was a pulled muscle in my neck which was causing all the pain and headaches.

I know, I don't want to go for surgery on the other eye either, I'm just as scared as you are about that.

Flashes of light can also be caused by a detached retina so my suggestion to you would be to find another eye specialist/surgeon asap to have your eyes checked out. Hopefully it is not that, because you can lose sight in your eye if it is, why you need to get to another doctor fast to be absolutely certain it's not. Phone your local hospital for recommended eye surgeons.

Also, even before my surgery I had flashes of light coming from my eyes, I had my eyes tested and was told that the vitreous gel had detached from my retina. That I was told is age related.

To me this whole eye surgery thing has made me depressed, it sure doesn't help. I feel alot more nervous now I guess because my doctor does not tell me anything and when I go to ask him questions he either doesn't have the answers or is too impatient to want to answer my questions.

I'm really disgusted that doctors are thinking these things are "all in your head" and you need a psychiatrist. I think that is really terrible and the first sign to get to another doctor. Keep strong and keep going.

I'm so sorry you all have had unhappy results with your cataract surgeries. Both of mine went very well. I have sort of a flash of flight in both eyes on the periphery of my visioin but it's more like a drop of water sliding down my face. The cataract dr. told me I am catching a ray off the side of the new implant but it will eventually go away. It takes about 9 weeks for the implant to totally heal. But if you see lights like a camera flashing, then you might be having detached retina problems and any optometrist can tell you. You can see an optometrist at Wal-Mart or Sears or JC Penney's to be sure.

But if you see lights like a camera flashing,

OR maybe the state has set your eyes up to use you as a photo radar station!!!!!

finally found out what the flashing is it is light reflecting of the edge of the new lense. boy takes alot to get used to that. at least now i know what it is. wish that it wouldnt reflect this way. but not much i can do about it. have to live with it.

Sorepaw: My question is, since other people don't have that flash of light all their lives after cataract surgery, did your doctor use a lens that was too small, was the lens not sewed on properly? I mean its odd and I'm wondering if your doctor could have done something that would have prevented you from getting that flash of light forever?
