MDJunction to me

tomboykimi"What MD Junction means to me is a place where i can feel like im not alone. As someone with something as rare as hydrocephalus, it feels like im the only one in the world with it. When i came to MD, its like everyone has it. It doesnt feel like im alone. And that people need to hold up a sign to say what i have, because people know. And they understand. I can get questions answered from people who have been through it rather than from doctors or people who only can tell you from a physical standpoint. THat is what MD junction means to me." Hi everyone:

New to this particular forum, although I belong to other groups on this site.

My husband is getting eye surgery tomorrow to remove "pterygium" which is a film that has partly grown over the cornea. He has to have that done first before he can get cataract surgery.

Has anyone here had pterygium surgery? What's the recovery like? Much pain? How long did it take? Were your activities restricted? So far the surgeon hasn't given him much practical information.

Thanks! Jo

Welcome to the forum, Jo. I hope your husband's surgery went well - has he now had the cateract surgery, too?

Please come back and share with the forum.

Hi H! The pterygium surgery seems to have gone well and, although he was warned he could get pain, he did not! He is now scheduled to have the cataract surgery in July. He also has double vision, but these surgeries aren't likely to correct that. And he has scarring on his cornea on the other eye, but he's decided a corneal transplant doesn't have a high enough success rate to be worth it. He is still driving, but basically just in our little town. And he doesn't drive at night. I expect he won't be able to drive in the next 5 years but I will be retired by then. We need to move from our house with a view because we are up a big hill, to closer to town so we can walk/bike everywhere! Jo

I'm so glad that the first surgery went well and especially that he didn't have pain! Does the doc think the cataract surgery might help with other vision issues?

I have some corneal scarring and some double vision - I'm just on close watch so far and see the doc every 4 mos.

It's a shame to give up the view... I'm constantly amazed how these conditions and chronic illnesses have such an effect on our lives and our families lives, but biking is good. Smile

Thanks for you interest! Unfortunately, the cataract surgery isn't expected to fix the other issues. Jo
