My pcp sent me to a hand surgeon who scheduled carpal tunnel release for March 13th. Yesterday while at an appointment with my neurosurgeon he called the hand surgeon (while we were still in the exam room) and asked him to add in an ulnar transposition procedure. Is it common to have both done at the same time? Is recovery going to be as much of a pain in the butt as I think? When the hand surgeon's office called to confirm that I knew about the additional procedure they told me I'd be in a s...

I have a diagnosis and will be seeing a hand surgeon tomorrow in fact. Already did the tests.

What is a hand therapist? I've read a lot on surgery, but I've lost so much fine motor skill over the past 4 months that its quite disabling. Unfortunately, it is in my dominant hand. I haven't found as much info on OT and PT either in lieu or after surgery.

Thanks....

neurologist diagnoised me with fb in early october, put me on meds, did nothing for me.
went to see a rheumotologist, told me he doesn't think it's fb but changed my medication to lyrica, i have been on it for about 3 weeks, I feel so relief for the burning on my arms and hands, the left being worse, even though I am right handed. rheumotologist prescibed a cream that of course my insurance does not pay for, but he pharmacy was nice enough to send me a large tube as a sample, sadly it doesn't w...

Has anyone been successful in obtaining AT/DME through your insurance provider?

I was just diagnosed this week after an MRE and I'm waiting for my PCP to confer and determine if I'm referred for OT or to a hand surgeon. The resident and my therapist both said assistive devices could help - but that it is an uphill battle to obtain them.

Thanks....

Is there a connection between these 2. I had CTS in April and 5 months later I got trigger thumb. When the surgery was done and I kept telling the worker Comp dr.something wasn't feeling right but he ignored me saying it was just from the surgery and it will be better in a few months after therapy. It still didn't work.
My question is are there connected. If there are I have to go back to the Dr. so he cane send me back to the surgeon. I'm afraid that since I didn't go to him first things cou...

Hi, I found this site just searching about nerve conduction tests as I have been told that there is a 95% chance I have CTS. Ihave had this right hand wrist pain on and off for years, ad a nerve conduction test done around five years ago, but it came back normal, and around a month ago it came back worse than ever! I have had all the usual things, been to my GP who has prescribed me ibuprofen gel (rubbish), co-codamol (rubbish), was even prescribed amitriptaline (check spelling) which is an an...

Hi Amor

It is not the CTS directly.
It is the frustration caused by the CTS. When we have a problem of any sort - it is very frustrating. Frustration is a form of anxiety (worrying).
The anxiety can cause anger, and sadness. And now you knoow the whole story.

hugs, Raoul...

Hi Lacasjo
I spoke to my son on the phone last night - he is a family doctor.
When I described where my pain was - he said - it is carpal tunnel.
he is very sharp.
I argued that I thought it was reflected pain from my neck - where I have 4 herniated discs.
But he countered that he sees patients all the time who have carpal tunner and diagnoses a bunch every day - and that he was sure I have it.

We did not talk much about treatments yet - but he did say he has a splint at his home, ...

I can tell you that I have been in pain for 4 years. I just had my 2nd negative emg. I saw my hand specialist and he told me that cubital tunnel syndrome only turns up on an emg/ ncv 1/3 of the time. Respectively there an emg will not show carpal tunnel 5-10% of the time. Suggest an ultrasound and MRI. Honestly, try to switch doctors if no one is listening. I found this link for you to show you that this is a fact and you are not crazy. The longer you wait with nerve damage the more permanent an...

My surgery was about 2-1/2 years ago. My other hand started flaring up while I was recovering from the surgery...my hand therapist told me about research that found wearing a splint 24/7 reduced the symptoms and improved the results of the nerve conduction studies. I think the study was for 6 wks and took more like 2-3 months for my symptoms to be completely gone. I've been wearing the splint again this week, but haven't needed it in about a year!
Hi all, I am not new to MDJ but I am new in this group.
I will try to be clear, and quick...but who knows?
I am 31 in a few days, and I have been having some tingling and mild pain in my right hand, for a couple of years now. I have been in retail for 15 years, and at the time my pain started I was scooping ice cream for a living. I have not worked in over a year (for unrelated reasons) but I am having some severe pain in my LEFT hand now.
Both hands hurt and tingle while driving or at other...

Did you have any testing to prove it's carpal tunnel and how severe? Usually EMG and/or nerve conduction studies. What kind of brace are you wearing? I have had surgery on one hand and manage the symptoms in the other at present with a brace. A brace has worked well for me...now I can go sometimes months without it. The trick is you pretty well need to wear it 24/7 (yes, night and day!) for a few weeks. My hand therapist after my surgery told me 6 weeks....it took 12 weeks for me (on the s...

Glad you're over the surgeries and getting back to your real life! Hope you have had no complications along the way. I had left done Oct/09. Then almost got right done, but I developed some weird tightness in both palms, saw a rheumy, had MRI's, still don't know what it is (no Dupuytren's), but the rheumy gave me the go-ahead to have the right CT surgery. In the meantime, my right hand settled down by wearing splints 24/7, then I needed surgery to repair a torn labrum in my hip. Now my rig...
