I'll start out that I don't have it as bad as my wife (she has Fibromyalgia). I understand the disease, but can't imagine the pain she feels. You can check out my Intro for more general details.

She has her good and bad days. Sometimes she can get up, go for a workout (her "in"), and make dinner. Occasionally I have to leave breakfast and lunch for her, and come home early from work to make dinner. Generally, though, she has a negative outlook on things (you know those Leos). I generally have a "well it happened so now what are going to do about it?" attitude (us Virgos).

So, what do fellow caregivers do to keep your sanity? Here's what I do:

- I try to sympathize with her

- I always ask her what I can do for her, and then try to remember to get it done.

- I try to resolve as many issues as possible. The weather station is not reading the winds correctly? I'll go up on the roof and move it...after the storm.

- I try to take some time to myself. But with two jobs (one being Microsoft...which is good for two jobs), there ain't much time left.

- Lastly, I've always lurked in support groups before. I figure I'll start posting and replying to more than just RV and truck discussions.

So, anyone out there?

Thanks!

RRU

Taking time for yourself is a BIG one. It is so necessary, yet it seems so difficult to accomplish!

Another thing that helped/helps me is to try and educate myself about the disease process and progression, etc. Kind of like the old adage, "Forewarned is forearmed."
