Why Am I Getting Canker Sores So Much?

About the cankers:

My canker sores are often quite bad (painful as if someone had dripped acid on my tongue). Usually I just get one canker sore, which usually appears around the front my tongue, but can also appear elsewhere (such as on the side in far back or on the top of my tongue). I rarely get multiple canker sores at the same time.

Most of the cankers are usually a white spot on the tongue. Occasionally I get what is called a raspberry tongue, which is canker sores that appear to be like the seeds on a raspberry.

My tongue is very sensitive. If I bite my tongue or burn it, it'll quickly turn into a canker sore and usually become quite bad.

Details:

I've had canker sores ever since I was very young. I used to only get them 1-2 times a year. Ever since New Years Eve (2010) which one just appeared suddenly on my tongue without warning. There was no forming process (which usually take s a day or two for my canker sores to form, it just appeared there which was very strange.

Ever since then, all year I have been getting canker sores 2-3 times a month, and I only get healed for about a week. I have had plenty of bad ones so most of this year has been nothing but misery for me.

I have eaten no different foods, so not sure why the canker sores come so much. Nothing else has changed. It seems that the healing gap (how long it gets better) is getting thiner and I fear that I may have a canker sore permanently. I have just got over a really bad canker sore, in 2 days tops, I have another one which started a couple days ago.

I have have been to specialist and they can't seem to give me an answer. I tried medications (currently on Acidophilus and rinse called SteriSol. So far, they don't seem to be working. The only thing I can do which helps is take anti-canker stuff such as Anbesol, Orajel: Ultra and Kanka. The only downside to that is that they only numb it for a few minutes then I have to keep putting more on. I go through one tube of stuff a day. I've been doing that for years. The pain is paralyzing, it'll literally stop me in my tracks at times and I don't know what to do. The canker sores is slowly getting worse and worse.

I often don't eat healthy. I eat a lot of process meats (wieners, Bologna etc). I've always been a big eater of that stuff. I drink a lot of skim milk, always have. I also drink a lot of bottled water. I used to drink a lot of juice (I often get thirsty always have).

What helps my tongue is water, when I'm in the shower, my tongue doesn't bother me that much, so I often take long hot showers when my tongue is sore. Also, when I'm outside, it doesn't bother as much as when I'm inside, which seems to be weird. The water seems to help it the most, not drinking water, but being in water, like taking a shower (probably has something to do with the moister).

Another thing, which may not mean anything but, I used to think that getting the canker sores which maybe caused by something in the house, but when I first started getting them, I lived in another house. I only moved once, which was about 15 years ago.

I'm an Advocate

HI... I have had canker sores since I was like 3, and through the yrs I would have as many as 20 of them at a time..... It has been blamed on about everything under the sun... I was given "small Pox vaccine" every two weeks for months, because that was suppose to cure it....well it did not... I have been thrown out of dentist offices when I was like 16 because I had a canker sore in my mouth... And he yelled at me never to come back into his office again, because he did not deal with low life people that had "HERPIES"... Well I hope you know that Herpies is not the cause for Canker sores... There have been many, many studies done now that show that it is an over active immune system/// It could be compared to how a person has a reaction with Gout... The cystals are formed in the joints, and the body sends in the antibodies to clear out the crystals and then the antibodies can not and just get ripped open, which calls in more anti bodies...... so you get the swelling and pain in the joint....

NOW you ask.... how doe that work in my foot......well... You have a cut or abraision in your mouth.... the body sends in the antibodies to protect the cut, well it sends in way to many, and they the balance of good and bad bacteria are thrown way out of wack.... and you end up with more of one that you need..... nOT good for a mucus membrain are..... so you get the sore..... WELL what I use and it seems to help a lot.... OHHHH but it hurts like heck when I first put it on..... but not after that if you keep using it like every 15 min for about an hour ... do this every day.... or more...The meds called..""Desixumetasibe GEL USP, 0.05% Make sure it is the Gel, not the cream.... you will HATE that... I promise....

Also with the meds you are using.... any thing with Tanic acid in it....I might not have spelled it right, will make the sore worse... YOU are litterally putting acid on that sore...... I don[t know how it can really help in the long run......So before using it....read the ingredience.....

Any way ..hope I have helped.....

Have you ever asked your MD or dentist about Behcet's Disease? My MD thinks I have it...have one canker sore for a year but most come and go. Don't go read too much and scare yourself...just ask a doctor to see if possible. Hope not. Heh...your old dentist was a dolt...98% of the population has herpes simplex type1. Tannins are in tea and coffee but thankfully they don't bother me....a little milk will bind them,if you miss your tea or coffee.
