I had problems with canker sores (aphthae) my whole life, from when I can remember being a kid. Whenever I consulted a doctor for it they would either say that I'm stuck with it until end of my life or would prescribe me something that would only make it worse or at least more painful.

2 years ago I read on one of the forums that getting rid of toothpaste that contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (which is a story on it's own) would help. I found Swiss toothpaste that is SLS free - Elmex. And number of canker sores decreased by about 70%. But I kept getting really big ones from time to time and my body would react to it like to an inflammation and nerves close to that aphthae would be sensitive which would result in me being very nervous for as long as canker sore is "active".

Then I read about dangers of fluoride in toothpaste (yet another poison it seems) so I wanted a toothpaste without SLS and fluoride. And since I could not find one in the market I tried making my own, as I was thought in school long time ago in my chemistry class. I found some recipes in internet that contain only Baking Soda (Sodium bicarbonate) and 3% hydrogen peroxide with a drop of peppermint oil.

So I went to local pharmacy and got all the ingredients to make sure they are medically pure and I went on with making my own toothpaste. At first it was just a game for me and my kids since it tastes nothing like regular toothpastes, it is very salty and it takes getting used to. But I kept using it for a while since I made a lot in my first batch and I didn't want to throw it away. And my kids were happy for having "our own" something.

After about a month I noticed that I didn't have a single canker sore in that time. So I connected the dots and kept using it since. It has been a year now and not a single canker sore has appeared. Not even when I bite my mouth from the inside by accident which used to result in 100% painful and long lasting canker sore.

Is it baking soda or is it hydrogen peroxide, I don't know. Or a combo of those two maybe? But I decided to keep using this paste forever. It's cheaper than regular ones and I don't have to be afraid being poisoned by something I can not even pronounce.

I also solved a problem of "bad breath" (since home made toothpaste will not refresh your mouth at all) by using colloidal silver solution with few drops of peppermint oil. It can hold for a long time without going bad (months even) and it really refreshes the mouth.

I just wanted to share this with all of the world in hope someone might solve his problem like I did. I know that canker sores are not the same for everyone and some people really suffer while some have it only few times a year. But I think it's worth trying out.

To make your own toothpaste just search one of the million videos on youtube, it is really simple. Same goes for colloidal silver (use distiled water only please).

I hope this helps you all.
