Hey everyone,

I am mei from japan, and this is the first time i am joining a support group. I have been a bulimic since 4 years now, and recently went to a counselor for the first time. I am trying my best to get over bulimia but i am failing miserably. My binge and purge episodes occur daily ( and have been occurring daily for the past few months ) and I am really scared as to what shall happen to me. i lose hope easily so i was hoping (!!!) that i could gain some support through this group.

Mei

Hi Mei - are you living in the U.S. right now? Did this problem start when you moved here? I'm suffering from it, too... actually, I'm not sure if I should say I "was" suffering from it because I haven't thrown up for... this is my 5th day. I hope today I don't do it because I've had so many days of having not, and that makes me feel hopeful. Which is why I thought I should respond to you, being Asian-American myself.

If you're feeling compelled to purge this much -- you need to take extra precautions. Can you keep liquids down? Start drinking nutrient waters with potassium in it -- like Whole Foods' 395 brand. There's a green tea drink fortified with potassium. Have you researched bulimia? I'm sure you have, since you've had it for 4 years now. So you probably already recognize how it chemically messes up your body -- you should pop multivitamin pills (but not too much). And drink Gatorade to restore some of the electrolytes that you lose when you drink.

It's funny, because Mei is also my name, though in Chinese. I don't go by my Chinese name in everyday life though, just my American one.
