MDJunction to me

jenniferdiva"MDJunction has been just an amazing support for me. The people who are on mdj are so nice! Unlike the many other support sites that I have been on. I have made several friends on mdj who are so supportive and so educated about mental illness. Of course non of us are doctors, but we certainly offer each other hugs, opinions, and advice. I have learned a great deal from my friends on mdjunction. I am also encouraging other people who suffer from mental illness to come on to MDJ. It can be a life line." (jenniferdiva)

Sooo..i took a break from mdj and now i am back and glad i rejoined the group (: i.miss you rhonda and janna (:

Little update: i have reduced purging to once or twice a week....it has been a struggle but i want to start living life again. I have had kind of make peace with my body in order to stop purging. And i mainly reduced purging because lovely bulimia screwed up my teeth. Finally went to the dentist and found out my teeth are crap. They look fine but are a mess. Cavities (nice deep ones) that were neglected for far too long and old fillings have to be redone. My dentist has done everything but flatout ask me if im.bulimic. ie. She knows. Im ashamed to admit the truth to her. And there probably a lot typos bc my computer died and so i reduced to typing on my nook touchscreen....

Really hope everyone is doing okay....i know how.hard this illness can be

Welcome back! It's great to hear from you and twice a week is such an improvement. It's funny what motivates us. I actually go to the dentist today and am nervous about it. Wish me luck.

Janna, do you think going four times a year helps.... what did you tell your dentist to justify going four times? Do you use any particular products that help protect your teeth and gums? Im trying h:/ard to stop purgingbut it is still a weekly occurance

I was surprised myself! I always floss and brush after I purge. It started out that I was getting cavities years ago so my dentist (friend of family too whom I can trust) suggested 4 times a year. My husband has benefits for part of it and we just pay the rest...it is worth it, especially for us. Flossing helps the gums a lot. I was expecting a cavity though as I have been B/Ping a lot, but I am trying really hard to cut it down now that I am more stable on my meds. It is so hard! Oh, I use sensodyne toothpaste but I used to use proenamel that helps protect that enamel. I switched because I was going to whiten my teeth--I have the stuff but I told myself I won't do it until I stop B/Ping and that hasn't quite happened yet...maybe if I can get to once a week again I will do it.

Way to go!!! Oral health care is sooo important... (getting a little graphic here) but post rinsing after a purge is imortant to remove the acid. I guess its like the discussion of candy and childrens teeth. I have always been a firm believer that you can eat and drink anything, just make sure you are cleaning your teeth really well. There are still so many people who do not floss and that is the most crucial in oral care
