I have found that anytime I am alone I automatically want to binge and purge..and given the isolating nature of ED I am alone a lot. So..I though I would be nice to create an ongoing thread on ways to distract yourself from binging and purging.

Here are mine (:

-get together with a friend for coffee (I've started reaching out and doing this a lot more)

-surf the web

-read a good book

-go for a walk

Those are mine..what are yours (:

I like all these distractions. My therapist tells me I need to find ways to distract myself from binging and purging. Besides the ones you mentioned I also journal, call someone (not to talk about b/p, but just to talk), leave the house, and pray for the willpower to not do it. I am new to this group and any suggestions or words of advice are welcome. Thanks for posting.

Ahhhh..shopping..I definitely have a complusive shopping habit..and interestingly enough..studies have found that many people who are bulimic are also complusive spenders, lol

@kbohlen-welcome to the group! I'm positive you will find this site helpful(: I like your journaling idea..something I definitely need to get back into. Keep posting and tell us more about yourself(:

Hey lonely Girl, what a fabulous post. I like this and I know I need to find some distractions. I like the idea of going for a walk...I miss my big long walks...I have to stop baking as it only encourages the urges!!!

I can't wait for summer here in Queensland - I want to go swimming as often as I possibly can, it is so therapeutic for me Laughing

Baking is a problem for me too. Yesterday I baked and ate half the pan! Didn't purge though..if only bc people were home. Walking is great..I love it too

I love to bake and shop as well. I am also bi-polar, which makes things a little harder at times. The compulsiveness to do certain activities, whether it be binge, shop, or whatever can be very hard to resist. I am also the only person in the house who will eat baked goods, so it makes it very tempting to have it around. I try and do it only on special occasions.

I'm an Advocate

I can't bake at all as it causes me to b/p. Too bad because I can bake well. I have a hard time with cooking too. I want to get in and out of the kitchen as fast as I can and so end up eating prepared foods or a quick bowl of cereal...it's gotten worse over the last year with that.

My husband is away this week, which is HUGE trigger for me. I have already ran on the treadmill, showered, and now am getting ready to put the kids to bed. I plan on sitting in another room, away from food, and reading.
