Babywearing - What kind of sling/carrier?

I feel like I've tried every kind of carrier on the market at one time or another. I've owned several - a Baby Bjorn that I got as a shower gift, a padded, cotton sling with plastic rings that I bought after I realized the Baby Bjorn was NOT going to work for me, and a MayaWrap sling with metal rings that I bought after observing how comfortable and easy to use they were for other moms at LLL meetings.

The MayaWrap was by far the most comfortable and easiest to use and nurse while wearing. Easy to wash and dry on low, too. (I put one of my husband's heavy winter socks over the rings so it wouldn't thunk around in my dryer.) I got the brightest, craziest fabric (#37) so I could wear it with everything. I loved it especially because it had an open tail and I could kind of wrap my son up in it and it had the added benefit of discouraging strangers from walking up to us to touch my son. Wearing him in the sling kept him in my personal space and adults are a lot more cautious about invading your personal space to spread their germs all over your precious little one.

The padded sling was okay for a while, but I had my son in July and despite the light cotton fabric, the padding on the shoulder and rails was just stifling on a hot day with a cuddly infant! It was a good "training" sling for me, though!

The Baby Bjorn was a horrible joke or something. To put it on, I had to put my son in it on a table or bed, lay down on top of him, and have my husband cross the straps over my shoulder blades to buckle us into it. I couldn't manage to get my son into it while I was wearing it. It was awful - much less impossible to nurse in!

If anyone is thinking about getting a MayaWrap, take a minute to check out the video I made for friend of mine to run her through the positions she could use. (She didn't find the DVD it came with to be the most self-explanatory.) The video is a little grainy because we had to compress it to fit the video guidelines on YouTube because it's so long. Here's the link: MayaWrap Live Demo

Thanks for the info Chrissi!

I'm a huge fan of the Moby wrap and pretty much any Mei Tai. I've got a beautiful one I ordered from a wahm a few months ago. I love it!

MayaWraps are as good, if not better, than the Moby!
