Our son is now 8 1/2 months old and we're still breastfeeding!

We introduced solids at 4 1/2 old, and he eats two meals a day, but my son is addicted to the boob, still nursing several times a day.

How are you all doing?

Good for you!!!! Enjoy it!!! He will quit when he is ready!!! If you are ready b4 that...just start replacing it with more solids and he will eventually not nurse as long, until one day, you just notice he went to bed w/out it all day!!! Breastfeeding is a lasting gift you give your child....enjoy the bonding and the experience!!! It is YOUR breastfeeding experience...Don't let anyone tell ya when it is time to quit....you deside what works for you!!!

Yeah, he'll let you know when he's ready to give it up.

Mine just all of a sudden refused to nurse, one evening, as I was putting him off to bed.

I was sad because it was hard to separate his refusal to nurse with a rejection of me.

I still find it hard because I wasn't ready to give it up. But he is the boss and he was just shy of 12 months.

I continued pumping (in order to gently stop my supply) for another 2 months.

I am glad to see others here, in this group.

I had to fully wean my son at 2 1/2 when I had to have some thyroid tests run. Figured that was as good a time as any since he'd have to abstain from nursing for a week or so anyway. He was on the verge anyway and only nursed occasionally when he had a boo-boo or had trouble getting to sleep at night or on vacation.

People used to ask me all the time if I was going to wean him soon. I told them we were working on it. They don't have to know that weaning begins the first time you introduce solids and continues until they stop nursing altogether. Technically, my son was weaning for 2 full years.
