Hello forum. Want some advice. Gonna tell you a bit about my story. Here goes:

6 months ago, while I was leaving with my boyfriend (we separated in february), I felt a lump in my left breast. I went to a gynecologist (no insurance) and he sent me to an ultrasound and tumor markers. The ultrasound was unclear, so he sent me to a mammography that I never went to. CA 15-3 was 40, which I was told was high. I postponed going back to the gynecologist’s office, especially for lack of money, but fear as well. Then I broke up with Cliff, my boyfriend, and it all went downhill. He was the only one working, I was living in his house. Now I’m living with various relatives and friends, don’t have a place of my own, don’t have any income. I’ve noticed a discharge now on my left breast, and I got really scared, especially sicne I knew the tests weren’t so good. I’m only 43… can I have cancer at this age? Also, are there organizations dealing with this? I mean, if you don’t have any income and no insurance, is there anybody that can help? Nowhere to turn, don’t know what to do. Should I be worried, or I’m just paranoid?

God I hope you've gone back to the doctor! I was diagnosed with stage IV (that is the worse) breast cancer at the age of 31! I've heard of women as young as 19 dying from the type of breast cancer I have (Inflammatory). There are so many different types of breast cancer, some are slow growing and others and incredibly aggressive. The younger you are, the more aggressive the cancer tends to be! Run to the doctor and get treatment. Also look into organizations that will help you with costs and ask your doctor abount payment plans as well. A lot of pharmaceutical companies will donate "samples" that will cover your treatments. Apply for medicaid, social security dissability, WIC, - anything you can for aid. My brother-in-law threw a benefit for me and raised several thousand dollars to help pay for treatment! Below are a lot of links for you to look at!

Look up CanCare (Houston, TX, although may be in your area or something similar)

Look up Gilda's Club or House or something in your area as well.

GOOD LUCK

Yes, unfortunately young people can get breast cancer, like the above poster, im also 31 and was just diagnosed a couple weeks ago with infiltrating ductal carcinoma.. My lump was also in my left breast.. I actually went to the health dept and was able to see a dr paid for by the health dept, maybe your local health dept could help.. Also since you have no income right now, you can appy for medicaid and most likely be accepted, those links are great that the above poster posted, im sure you will be able to find help somewhere but please dont wait, go get checked so if it is something, you can get treatment now.. God Bless!

Sara
