Hello All. My name is Rebecca. I'm not sure if I am in the right support group because I tested positive for BRCA1. I had mastectomies and reconstruction and now here I am. I've never had breast cancer but because of breast cancer I am breastless and at times scared. First of all, am I in the right group? If not does anyone no of any support groups for brca1 gene carriers?

Hi Rebecca

I've never heard of a BRCA1/2 support group but yes you are in the right place; you'll be accepted with open arms in any breast cancer support group! Kuddos to you for taking the scary test and even more scary prophylatic mastectomy!

I've found in my journey of seaking support, I've also supported others! I find much comfort in sharing my experiences and helping others.

msteri1 just posted about her fears of her soon to come mastectomy and reconstruction surgery: http://www.mdjunction.com/forums/breast-cancer-support- forums/general-support/43461-how-do-i-deal-with-the-loss-of- a-breast#43481

I think you two should chat, you could really help each other out.

There is a "Risk and Genetics" chat on the bulletin board and young survivor coalition; you could get a lot of support there.

Good luck, feel free to chat, vent, ask questions whenever! Please keep us posted as to how you're doing!

hugs

jessi
