I seem to remember awhile back chatting with someone but I don't remember who. Welcome to the group; are you cancer free and tested because of a family member or tested because of your own diagnosis? We're all here to chat or whatever you need!

I was tested because I had a stage one breast cancer 8 months ago and had a lumpectomy my last MRI I had showed that it had returned. They then tested me for the gene because of my ashkenazi background and I am positive. They are confirming the test now and if positive I will most likely need a masectomy and have my ovaries removed. Currently I am just waiting and waiting for the results and taking tamoxifen.

waiting is brutal; I am so sorry to hear you have to go through this a second time and are potentially facing invasive surgeries. I had a mastectomy after my chemo; neither was pleasant but not as bad as your picturing. Getting in touch with a good plastic surgeon so you can have reconstruction done immediately following mastectomy is nice.

The above link is a plastic surgery clinic in New Orleans that is suppose to be one of the best for reconstruction. It's a good resource for researching what you want done.

I tested negative for BRCA (I was tested due to the severity of my cancer and that I was only 31). I'm assuming your original tumor was positive for estrogen or progestern; make sure before they start cutting out body parts you do full genetic counseling and discuss with your surgeon, an oncologist (medical or radiation), and your OBGYN if the hysterectomy is really the right way to go. I don't know much about the BRCA stuff; but I've learned one doc will be ready to cut everything out and the next has other options. Get a couple opinions and make sure docs are explaining everything they are doing and why so that you understand and are comfortable with it!

If you need any help with research or just need to chat, I'm here!

Good luck

xoxo
