MDJunction to me

carmen33"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

I am Ciara, 17, and a senior in high school. I battle with BPD with strains friendships (luckily none of the meaningful ones) and strains in my household. My family loves me and vice versa but I exploded on them which causes the same reaction and is a vicious circle. I need to meet others like me to know that I am not crazy, and that there are people like me, and to also learn coping techniques. I am a kind open minded person with so many passions, just need to learn how to deal with these challenges.

Hi Ciara,

Welcome to the group. One of the main techniques people teach is dbt therapy. There are lots of sites that have work though manuals on your own, but if you can find a therapist or group who is skilled in it, then I say do that! I wish there was a group one close to me.

I'm new at the whole coping skills myself, so I don't have many words of wisdome, except, you're only as crazy as everyone else in the world. And I mean EVERYONE else. Just because you have a disorder does not make you crazy. You are perfectly normal, wonderful, special and unique, and these symptoms you talk about are very familiar to a lot of us here!

I agree with everything porch said. I will say that I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as normal. What's normal to one person could be completely odd to another. Just learn the coping skills, try to learn DBT, and be yourself. Surround yourself with people who don't judge you or others, or care what others think. That's what has been great for me. I've spent time with a great group of people over the past few years. They are totally fun, accepting, creative, etc, and the people who judge others tend to think we are the most strange group of individuals there is.

Here is an example of two of them. The guy with the fire, and the guy playing the drums are close friends of mine.

I'm not a doctor or a therapist, I'm just someone who is working on my issues just like everyone else. I can, however, offer support, understanding, and opinion from personal experience.

Welcome to the group Smile. I think you will some good support and relating here. Do you have a therapist or group for your bpd yet? This disorder need not define you. It is just a set of struggles that you need to work on. It sounds like you have a lot going for you, including that you are still young, at least by my standards Wink.

I do not have a therapist nor a group for my BDP. I do feel like it defines me, but im sure that working at it and mastering the way i react and my triggers that I won't think it controls of defines me anymore
