Why wear a ribbon?

"I wear this ribbon for my son, Kyle, who was diagnosed with Duchennes Muscular D..." (allifoster83)

MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

Hi everyone,

Well my story began ten years six years ago, in and out of hostpital emergency departments having siezures, with no explination. Then i would miss weeks at a time from school being sick with no energy, i was being bullied when i attended. When i got to my final school years i would leave school and walk to the hostpital pleading for help saying i was at my last straw, saying this was it, what was keeping me alive was my email contact with Kids Help line. For weeks i would do the same, then eventually I left school, and just sat in a park and called 000. It was at the end.

I finally found someone to talk to after years of struggling and i was hopsitalised for a couple of months.

I ranaway, the police had to look for me oops Sad. Since i suffer narcolepsy i didn't no where i was i dream't it.

I have tried doing some DBT but that stopped when i had a narcolepsy attack and i felt really embarassed.

I haven't been out the house with friends since then. 5 months.

I just wish and hope it easier for kids and teens and families to get help before it is to late.

I now have recuring dreams of how mnany times i have harmed myself, countless times over years, too many. And i hope no-one else my age has too suffer that much but i know they do.

I am unable to study at Tafe as i 'might' fall asleep and injuer myself. So therfore i hardly see anyone as i live in the middle of nowhere.

Oh well, at least i found a place to chat.

welcome to our group I'm sorry your going through this. it must be hard. This might strange but have you looked into a service dog they may have one for your condition. i know they have 4 seizures, diabetics,

don't be embarrass, or ashamed it's part of you & everyone can conquer it & find a way to accept it & be good with it. I have a mild case of Cerebral Palsy & I walk with a limp & people in school & in high school too & now they look at me & made fun of the way I walk I walk with a limp.

we are here for you & nobody should go through bullying, any kind of harassment because they are different. I hope everything goes well & you're able to get out of the house. Can someone go with you I know sometimes you need alone time. is that an option?

Have a great night & day Jaye feel free to post anytime Wink Smile Laughing

I'm not a doctor or a therapist, I'm just someone who is working on my issues just like everyone else. I can, however, offer support, understanding, and opinion from personal experience.

well maybe he could go through training. I saw this show where this woman was having anxiety attacks & she had a dog that she wanted to train because he made her calm. I know it was dog whisper, he had to tweak him because he was hyper. so maybe you can look into that I hope all is well Jaye Keep Strong

Sheep, welcome to our group! I'm sorry you had to go through the bullying because I know what that feels like. People can be very cruel.

Jaye, your idea about a dog was an excellent one and I'm glad that Sheep already has one!

I'm fascinated by K9 dogs any kind. sheep I hope you will find a way to be more independent & be able to get your dog trained. Keep Strong & we will be here if & when you need us. Jaye Sideways Wink

This is kind of off topic, but K-9 dogs fascinate me, too. Did you realize that there are many dogs in the military and one of them was with the Navy Seals and parachuted into bin laden's compound? They actually showed a simulation about the little guy parachuting in with the Seals. They really are man's best friend.

yeah i heard that too. that would've been cool to see that. but I want to help anyone that has been bullied or disabled that should be able to be independent. I don't have the knowledge or the ability to do it. I can only suggest it. I don't if you would have to pay to get a service dog or not. but I think any dog that has a good temperament would do. I would like my cat to become a therapy cat. dogs are man's best friend.

I'm not into dogs that much but there are certain ones that I do love.

IMHO cats can be just as therapeutic as dogs. It may be in a different way, but cats are good for calming us and giving us love, too.
