So, I know for me I relate my emotions, especially with my BPD to music. Does anyone else do this? There are specific songs I love because I escape in them, sort of. A lot of Pain and Never too Late by Three Days Grace are both songs I relate to. Sober and Please Don't Leave Me by Pink and Impossible by Kelly Clarkson. A lot of her music actually.

I'm just curious if you guys do the same thing?

Live. Love. Laugh.

I guess I do this to some extent since I always avoid sad songs. I prefer the classic rock n roll or soothing music and also hymns. Those are things that uplift me instead of drag me down. When you think about it, that's quite a contrast in music, isn't it?

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I sing when I'm happy, but I also sing when I'm really upset as a way of comforting myself.

When I was about your age, I considered Madonna's "Borderline" to be my theme song, for obvious reasons. But that was mostly out of snark. There are a lot of different songs which I relate to.

One of my current favorites is by Maritri, from Soulfolk experience. The lyrics I really like are:

"Always remember that life is short and unpredictable.

Moments are fleeting, and sometimes simply miserable.....

I wanna regret the things I've done, never the things I've left unknown.

Never a second will I waste, never an opportunity to taste the sweetness of this life

All of the misery and strife, of all of the challenges I'll fight for love."

If you're interested, you can listen to it here

Keep in mind that I'm not a medical professional, and my advice is based on personal experience.

I play the sad songs when I'm really low. I don't believe in love by Queenschrye I know I spelled it wrong. or weathered by Creed. broken by Seether.

it makes me stronger to face the world going to work I'm able to tolerate it. or drama from family. it picks me up in away. I told someone that at my other job & she didn't believe me.

I was always into myself. I really never had anyone to help me learn to cope with things so I listened to music to sooth my sadness. & I started to write poetry but I wish I could express it more than just writing down my thoughts.

I definitely relate to this! Through music you can gain a better understanding of yourself, and when you hear someone else singing things that relate to you, you don't feel so alone anymore. I agree with you on the song "Please don't leave me" by Pink. I feel that a lot of songs I listen to are sad, but even though it sounds weird, I like that because it helps me cry. For me, crying is my way of releasing stress and anger that gets built up inside of me. Try Breathe Me, by Sia. I guarantee you will love it.

And Angela, I do try to listen to uplifting music also, it can change your mind-set completely. You can be having the worst day ever and when you just sit, chill, and listen to some good tunes, it helps you feel so much better.

It depends on my mood, but it you just need to chill and relax, the Garden State Soundtrack is the absolute best. I just love it, and know a lot of people who use it.

ahlqub72, Sia is great. A lot of her songs I can really relate to. I'm In Here is another good one.

No Doubt is one of my favorite bands and they have a few songs that the lyrics that perfectly describe what it was like when I was in feeling pretty horrible with my exboyfriends. Everything In Time is a good one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0q5zX9zjW64 It makes me tear up a bit each time.
