I am interested in getting dbt treatment but can't seem to find it in my area. My therapist had me doing homework lessons out of a dbt treatment book she had. I'm going to order it as now we are focussing more on my grief and depression. I am in pits of grief and depression right now after losing the 3 very close people on my life in just 2 years. Anyway, any suggestions in getttingthe dbt help so I can work on that as well, or is the book enough? I looked for a support group in my area and can't find one. Thanks Smile

Unfortunately there aren't enough DBT programs. I'm guessing since your therapist has you working out of the book that she isn't properly trained in DBT? The workbook itself can help some people, it really just depends person to person. I have actually never even seen the workbook; my therapist didnt use it with me. She is going to start me with a workbook called "Food and Feelings" I believe. She said she isnt sure why food is involved in the name, but that it's the best reference to feeling for clients that she has come across.

You may also want to look up groups in meetup.com, or nami's website.

Here are some sites with more info and resources that may help

She had just completed a training series in DBT, and was happy to work w me. She isn't experienced though. Nor does she specialize. The book is sold online that she had me working out of. She is more concerned about my grief and depression though, so our sessions mainly focus on that. I am doing ok w most of my symptoms, but would like more support. Smile

I wish you and I luck in finding help. Is it possible to do these lessons alone or even with a friend and help ourselves? Or are we too BPD to self treat? I understand seeing a therapist is good especially if you are depressed or just starting out, but my therapist doesn't do DBT and it is what I need. Thanks all!
As Always,

I know some people do it themselves with workbooks. I feel that it can work to a certain extent, but a therapist trained in DBT could do so much more.
