Hi Kiranna! Welcome to the group. I'm so glad you're here. I hate that you need to be but glad you came and hope you will get out of it what we all do; sharing, support and laughter. We are a crazy bunch but we have a good time and learn a lot from each other.

My name is Susan. I am bipolar 2. I was diagnosed in 1994. What that usually means is that a person has what is called hypomanic episodes and depressive episodes. You get energized and less inhibited but don't have full-blown mania, no psychotic episodes. Depression tends to predominate. It can be a little different for each person. Read all you can, learn your triggers and warning signs for both mania and depression and learn all about your meds. Never stop taking them and be patient. Treatment takes time. Feel free to personal message (PM) me any time you want to vent or just ask questions. I am happy to help if i can or be just an ear when you need one.

Visit us often even if it's just to read. We start a thread every day and we share our daily experiences and try to laugh with each other. Any input is welcomed with open minds and hearts!

Hugs

Hi Kiranna,

Welcome to our group! I think Susan pretty much summed it up. Bipolar 2 is mainly characterized by hypomania and depression. Once you have a manic episode though, you are usually diagnosed at type 1. I am type 1. I've had full blown manic episodes. Luckily, I found the right medications for them and don't have to take too many.

I hope this helps you. Please feel free to ask more questions or post as you would like.

Oh and as far as bipolar being related to fibro- I've read and heard from dr's that say that there is a correlation simply because so many people with fibro have bipolar.

However, just because you have fibro does not mean you are bipolar and vice versa.

I think the two "illnesses" are pretty much located in the same part of the brain. That's what I was told by a top physician here where I live. It can also manifest as just depression.

Those articles explain it a little bit but the docs are studying it at this time.

I'll tell more as I know more.
