I do the dame thing. I am sorry that you have these issues as I hate this. I will be talking to someone and all of the sudden I go off topic. It happens a lot, especially when I am hypo.
Sincerely,

Omg, I do this all the damn time!!! Whether it is mania, hypomania or just plain dumb on my part, I am not sure. All I know is that my family, especially my husband will get a bit irritated with me and tell me "stick to one subject, dammit!". I try but I take, what I like to call, "the scenic route" to a point. Hell, sometimes when I go off on my tangents, there is no point of return. I also tend to talk/write "backwards". Not dyslexic but sometimes it feels like my thoughts are. I always tend to start at the "end" and work my way to the "start", if that makes any sense. I am working diligently on it.

I don't hate this about myself but it sure as hell makes communication a bit more challenging.

Sometimes, I truly believe it is a BP thing. Trying to get the thoughts/etc out before they flit off to somewhere else, sort of like on a butterfly trip. At least I am learning why everyone tends to look at me like I am speaking alien or something.

Blessings, strength and courage to all.

i do it all the time , i think talking backwards is a way i have spit it out before i forget where i am, that is why i am asking, i think it is a bipolar thing, but i do it more than my brother does. i do not think all bipolar do it, just some , we must be the special ones, sometimes people think i do it on purpose, i think of something and out it comes, hard to lie this way. it as if i have so much information in my head i want to spit it out. i bet you give information overload to, people just walk away from me, when i just give more information than is needed, i like doing it i know.

i looked it up, maybe it is

You start talking in one direction and you go off on a tangent in a totally different direction (tangential thinking) OR you go into way too much detail about what you're talking about but eventually get back to your point (circumstantial thinking).

does this sound right

here is another one

society that speeds up mentally experiences every mental slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety

I will say or do something then stop for a minute and then I will immediately forget what I was saying or doing. It is very frustrating. I think that it is partially my meds and the side affects associated with them.
