Hi,everyone,

I went to my shrink, (no offense) yesterday and complained that the lithium made me gain way too much weight. He switched me to a low dose of Haldol with benadryl at night. Anyone on this? He said it is used for different disorders. He also said it shouldn't cause weight gain.

I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you Smile

I'm an Advocate

I was on haldol when I was first diagnosed in 2001, I had very bad side effects from it including hallucinations but this does not happen to everyone. Just be aware of any changes or new symptoms you experience and be sure to mention them to your pdoc.
I am not a professional, any and all advice that I give is based solely on personal experiences and is not intended to take the place of a medical or mental health professional.
My diagnosis:
Bipolar I Extreme rapid cycling, General Anxiety disorder, Social anxiety disorder, PTSD, Fibromyalgia
My meds:
Equetro 800mg
Klonopin 1mg as needed for anxiety
Celexa 40mg

That's between you and your doc. Thats the med they give patients when they refuse their medications in the hospital when they force them down. I have a major problem with the med for moral reasons. Its highly sedating and it can cause major weight gain. Could he not give you lamictal or something? That is the oldest antipsychotic in the book. Go to drugs.com to find out the side effects. Its not even an atypical. I am not a doctor so my opinion should not be used in lieu of medical advic.
My experience is no substitute for sound medical advice.

Thanks everyone,

I guess everyone is different in how meds affect them. I will first read side affects and try it. I did try lamictal a very long time ago. I told the Dr. I didn't like it. Don't remember why though.
