Hi everyone, I am new here.I just wanted to say hi and tell a little about myself. I have been in the hospital twice in the past year and a half due to severe manic episodes.I could really use some support. It has been difficult to except and understand what is going on with me. The people around me dont get it either. They cant understand how you could be perfectly normal most of the time, and then be blindsided by breaks from reality at others. It is hard and really lonely.I figured this would be a good place to find understanding. Thanks.

This is a great place to get compassion and understanding for what you go through. You are far from alone.
Every person experiences this disorder differently. My opinions are based on my own experience and experiences shared with me. I am not a professional and should never be mistaken for one.

Welcome to the group. You made a good choice coming here to open up about your stuggles, and it is a positive sign that your are seeking help. There are many bipolars that are never able to arrive at the conclusion that they need help at all.

Your experience of being bipolar and dealing with other people is very similar to mine. Its difficult to figure out how to relate to people without setting them up for dissappointment/confusion. In casual conversation I can appear normal, but if you start asking me personal questions I start to get very anxious in fear of them finding out about my illness. I dont want to come out and introduce myself as bipolar, but sometimes I feel it would make relating to people a lot easier.

I highly recommend that you get a confirmed diagnosis and an assessment of the degree of your disability. While this should not be considered your status for life, it will help to reduce blaming yourself for your pain and to find a path forward. Accepting being bipolar can be very hard because it is not a constant state, and it messes with your perception. It is also an condition with no cure, just careful managment.

I am confident that with mood stabilizers your manic episodes can be controlled such that they no longer interrupt your life. Unfortunately, the long term stuggle for bipolars is often depression. Do your best to resist the urge to push people away, or to abandon interests of the past.

Be couragous yet humble, and reach out to those that love you. Try to help them understand what you are experiencing, and close the emotional gap. Never doubt that your family and friends love you, and want you to feel loved, but you may have to be patient with them as they learn about your condition.

Understanding bipolar disorder can be hard in the beginning. That is why it's so important to educate yourself. Find out as much as you can about bipolar by reading books or learning off the internet. Bipolar Disorder for Dummies is a good starter book with the basics in it. In time you will come to accept the illness and move on. There are tons of people here that you will make friends with and they really do care about you. Tons of support here too. You won't be lonely anymore. It's like a big family with lots of brothers and sisters. We stick together and help each other out. I hope you love it as much as I do. Welcome to the group!!

Welcome to the group! I hope you get all the help and understanding here as I do. I know it is hard to be just fine and then seemingly blindsided with some of the symptoms we get. Hang in there and keep posting.
