Hi everyone,

Clancy I. is one of my absolute favorite speakers in AA. I saw him speak in 2009 or 2010.

Clancy runs a mission for alcoholics in Los Angeles. He got sober in 1958.

Clancy is humorous and thought-provoking. I love his satire on AA. The tape runs about 50 minutes. Enjoy! Smile

http://www.aaspeakers.org/Clancy_I-from-Venice_CA-at- the_State_Line_Retreat_%28Steps_1_and_2_and_3%29-in- Primm_NV-on-12-09-2006

What do you think and feel about what Clancy has to say?

If you want, below is the link to find and share a tape you like:

http://www.aaspeakers.org/AA_Speaker_Tapes

_______________________________________________________

Since people have been having trouble, let me try with these revised directions:

1. Go to http://www.aaspeakers.org/AA_Speaker_Tapes

2. Fill in the Boxes at top that say: Speaker: Clancy I. Then hit submit.

3. A list of Clancy's tapes will come up. Look for the one dated December 9, 2006 (about the 4th from the top) and click on Clancy's name.

4. It will take you to this page:

http://www.aaspeakers.org/Clancy_I-from-Venice_CA-at- the_State_Line_Retreat_%28Steps_1_and_2_and_3%29-in- Primm_NV-on-12-09-2006

4. I just download the tape. It'll download to where you have your MP3 files or music files or what ever. Maybe that's why mine didn't drop.

5. Then your music controls will come up and you can pause the tape if you need to. My bf said the tape was 55 minutes, but it's really 72.

6. I rarely sit there and just listen to the tape. I do other mindless chores or things (i.e. manicure, mending, etc.), so don't feel like you have to sit there. It usually takes me a couple of times to listen to a speaker tape to get all the jokes, innuendo, satire, message. I guess I'm pretty dumb that way.

7. Remember these are live tapes done in front of audiences of thousands that we're getting for free. Clancy does not always hold the microphone close to his mouth and I think once or twice early in this recording, they have trouble recording it, so there's a minute or two of silence. I always have to turn my computer volume up when listening to a Clancy tape.

__________________________________________________________

Cool OK, HERE IS A 2ND CLANCY I. TAPE: "ALCOHOLISM IS A DISEASE OF PERCEPTION"

1. Go to: http://storiesofrecovery.org/AAnonymous.htm

2. Scroll down to the Clancy I. tapes.

3. Click on the green button next to the first tape -- make sure the tape is labeled: "Clancy I of Venice CA - explains that Alcoholism is a Disease of Perception"

4. The tape should download and then click on open or play, depended on what your computer wants you to do.

5. THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST TAPE FOR BRAND-NEW PEOPLE. I haven't heard all of this tape yet.

6. Enjoy!

***SPOILER ALERT***

I loved the part where:

He describes, after a period of dryness, that in his sleep some came and tied knot around his stomach (or gut- whatever) and kept tightening it- it didn't scream "I want a drink" it just started stirring up this irritability and discontentedness, and his behavior started to change to the ones he loved- was getting sicker... Sad

Bfly, I'm sorry you got cut off.

Yes, if you want to start from the speaker link thread, click on the2nd link above. Then type in Clancy I. Find the tape from December 9, 2006 and click on that tape.

So far, I haven't had any problems getting to listen all the way through any of them. I click on the box that says download and it takes a minute or two to download. Then I click on "open" in the little box in the left-hand corner that says it's downloaded.

I've been listening to tapes all afternoon with my boyfriend, laughing and learning. Most of them have so much AA humor and satire in them!

Can't wait to hear what you all think.

I'll for sure finish it... it was hysterical! I was riding home from AZ to NV... can you say large mountains and small signals! Sure that was it- but I'll try the second link just in case. But I would really love it if you started a thread with links to some of these online speeches... I know I could do it- but this is your baby! Most people here probably have a favorite... and if not online- even reccomendations to purchase! Great supplement to recovery!

Most of the speaker tapes (CDs) done at conferences you can get for free from the internet. These are tapes (CDs) recorded in front of very large audiences - so the speakers have to be good, and usually have some humor in them.

The site I recommended is free and a safe site. The tapes have star ratings, so you can see which ones are rated the highest and how many people have listened to them. There is also a place for comments on the tapes (CDs).

We can for sure share favorite tapes (CDs) and sites where they can be downloaded or heard. I would love that. I was hoping people would start to use this thread as a place to share, but we can always start a thread just for tapes.

The tapes (CDs) have been SO important in my recovery. I frequently listen to the CDs I have at home when I can't make it to a meeting, or when I'm cleaning, etc.

Right now I'm searching for a CD done by a bipolar. It is driving me crazy because I can't remember the guy's name!

OK, who is going to be the first one to listen to Clancy's tape (above)?

OK. I listened to the Clancy tape and downloaded it to my iPod. I don't know if it's the ADHD or just my need to be entertained, but I found it quite difficult to hear his message.

Thank you for posting the information and that's a good website for recovery.
