Hi, I'm back after not posting for about a year. I am still struggling & know this site was helpful. So I'm giving it another try. I'm 2 days sober & taking it one day at a time. I've made progress over the year, but still haven't been able to stop. The past year flew by & I'm ready for a positive change! If anyone wants to chat please PM me Smile

Hi Sarah. Thank you! I thought about it. I looked into it & the closest meeting in my area is about 15 minutes driving distance & I still don't drive. That's why I started back here. My situation is still the same as I still have no medical insurance, but did see a counseling place in my town, but I'm sure it's expensive & I don't have the money right now. Right now I'm focusing on eating healthy, drinking a lot of water, taking a few vitamins & I got exercise the past 2 days, but that's a good start for me. At this point I know I need to make some changes to accomplish the positive things I want for my future.

Call your AA Hot Line and they may be able to get you rides to the meetings.

Welcome back! If you can't find or get to a meeting in your area, there is AA online.

Have you ever used the AA online? I believe I tried it back in 2006 & never felt welcome because of conflicting spiritual beliefs I have. Thanks for your advice all of you. Today is day #3 & feeling so much better than the beginning of the week. I started reading a great self help book yesterday that someone got me last Fall. It's called "You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise L. Hay. I guess with me I have always tried doing things my self & was never comfortable talking to groups of people about my problems. I'm going to keep searching...posting here & looking in to other options, as I don't have anyone close to talk to where I live. No support from family & no friends in my area. The few friends I did have (that I met last summer) were all drinkers. Need to find a new crowd & move forward. I will continue to stay strong today & check back here. Thank you again to all that replied. Smile

P.S. I don't know why that posted twice, but I just erased the first one, because I added more to the second. I think it was because my computer froze up while I was trying to post & when I refreshed the page it posted twice.

This is an affirmation I need to keep reading this & believing it!!

Xina,

Contrary to popular belief, the AA "Big Book" was written so that everybody had an opportunity to learn how to quit drinking and nowhere in the program of AA, which is the first 164 pages, does it say you have to attend meetings to get sober. Meetings are the fellowship (which is important) but not the end all and be all of the 12 Steps that so many would have you believe. Having a copy of the Big Book is a great addition to any self-help library.

I have belonged to online groups in the past and some are better than others. Unfortunately, there will always be judgmental people in AA, just as there is elsewhere.

Louise Hay has been around for a long time and has written some great stuff.

Good luck and keep posting; you know you are among friends here.

Thank you Colleen!! I know there are judgmental people online, that's why I was away from MDJunction for a year, but thought I'd give it another try as I know there are so many going through the same things as I am. So hoping to meet some new friends to talk to.
