Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears. And how else can it be? The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. Kahlil Gibran

The psychiatrist I worked with in the Army had an interesting way of assessing your mood. If you said, "I feel low," he'd respond by saying, "On a 1-to-10 scale, how low do you feel?"

In so doing, what he was doing was assessing the severity of your mood. Sometimes just "I've got the blues" doesn't really say much. And unless you communicate just how really crappy you feel to your doctor, how is he going to know how to get you either the type of therapy you need, or the type of medication (antidepressants) that might be appropriate for you.

We are in an interesting time because of the "recession," and some people have a difficult time getting the right doctoring or even being able to see a doctor at all (depending on insurances and financial particulars).

For that reason, I have chosen peer-to-peer support networking as an adjunct (add-on) to getting what limited therapy I might be able to obtain otherwise. I recommend several sites on the website I've authored at http://www.dbsamontereycounty.blogspot.com

Dr. Bob's site, HealthyPlace, and others (and there are not many of the quality of this site (that's why I'm an advocate).

Also, peer-to-peer networking is available on Facebook (you can have chats), Yahoo Messenger. A lot of people are really into the neat gaming you can do on Facebook - and that's a great way to pass time. But it is in talking with people, heart-to-heart, that is the salve that soothes my depressed feelings.

Dr. Murray Banks (Jewish psychiatrist) was a great one for quips and jokes. He said, "As you ramble through life, whatever be your goal, keep your eye upon the donut and NOT upon the hole."

It will turn around...hang in there!
