My dr has me on Lamictal and Abilify. Is it common to need two mood stabilizers? I am on a host of other meds as well since I have panic attacks, ADD, and insomnia.

It's not necessarily uncommon. Some people are on 3 at times and probably most of us have been on two at least temorarily before. I was on 2 for quite awhile, Depekote & Topomax, then Depekote and Lamictal) but have found that Lamictal has been the only mood stabilizer that I tolerate well. Everyone is different, as long as it works for you.

I'm never really sure either what is working for me. I can tell if I have a really bad response to it, but I guess I have never felt GOOD enough to know if I am on the right meds or not. I just always feel, just ok, like I am just making it. Does that make any sense?

Woohoo, I beat you, I'm on three!! (Sorry, it's Friday and I'm just in a weird mood.) Seriously, though, I'm on Lamictal, Seroquel, and, around my period, Prozac. I also take Klonopin for anxiety (but I don't think that's classified as a mood stabilizer). My point being that some people need more for the cocktail that works best for them. I'm finally feeling good most of the time--not manic, not sluggish, just energetic and positive.

How long have you been on the two meds? Maybe they just need time to work. I know that a lot of people don't think that Lamictal really starts working until you've been on at least 100 mg for at least two months. And I know that a lot of docs often prescribe another medication in conjunction with Lamictal for the best effects. If you've been on both for awhile and aren't feeling good--and I do know the difference, now that everything's working, this is the first time in ages that I have felt good--then maybe you need to ask your doc if s/he thinks you need to try something else.
