Hi, I was diagnosed with Bipolar II only a few weeks ago after suffering from depression for about 13 years and taking Zoloft, Paxil and Wellbutrin... Wellbutrin helped the best but only for a while. Well now I am on Wellbutrin and Lamictal, I started with 25mg a day and am now 100mg a day - 50 in the morning and 50 in the evening. I found that when I was doing only 50 in the evening I felt fantastic but now I find that with the morning one bringing it up to 100 mg, I'm uncoordinated and feel like I'm losing my balance, I'm extremely thirsty and I'm clenching my jaw. I'm waiting for the doctor to call me back. I really hope I don't have to come off the Lamictal completely because I have really noticed such a change in my moods... anyone else had these problems and does anyone take the medication just once a day instead of twice? Your help is much appreciated... thanks!

Hi, Jonela, welcome to the group, we're glad you are here, I too was diagnosed for many years as having severe depression, and on the antidepressants myself, at one point taking 4 of them a day, July I got my correct diagnosis and started the lamictal, and came off them all, welbutrion, paxil, rememron, and xanax were what I was taking, I am currently on the lamictal alone and it is working wonders for me, I am taking 400mg per day, 200 in the mornings and 200 in the evenings.

How long have you been on this dose?

I am new to the diagnosis of Bipolar II (July 2008). I was put on Lamictal and Lithium and am wondering how long will it take to see some effects that it is working for me. My husband is ready to

leave me and I am asking him to stick around just until we see if these drugs are going to work.

Get used to the dry mouth like all meds lamictal adds to it. I take 400mg in the morning and 400mg in the afternoon and have not had any of the other symptoms you are expericing. I do have a feeling like starting all new meds the side effects will go away, Just watch for any signs of a rash thats the one to be really concerned about. Stick to the lamictal I think its a wonder drug. good luck to you

Hi Transmissionhurt,

I'm very sorry to hear that this has affected your marriage. Did you start the medication in July? I think it's different for everyone but my doctor did tell me it could take up to 12 weeks... I was feeling great though in about 4-5 weeks. Why not bring your husband with you to your psychiatrist and then he can discuss your condition with your husband. I'm sure if you ask your doctor, he will be more than happy to do it. If you ever want to chat... you can contact me at jonelazarija@gmail.com. Hugs!

Hi, Tranmission, welcome to the group, how long is it going to take for the medications to get into your system? it varies from person to person, it took what i would call a short time for me to have it lift the depression that I had been under, about 4 weeks.. what milligram does your doctor have you on now?

Jonela, suggested taking your husband with you to your next doctors appointment, I agree with her and suggest also couples counseling, you have many challenges to your marriage, being married in the first place is a very hard thing to do, then you throw in a mental illness and it makes it even harder, has your husband learned about your illness?

I just started on Lamictal this week and so far no side effects (and thank goodness no rash either!!).

I hope it works for you, I know the effects being bipolar has on a relationship and its not fun
