MDJunction to me

peasha"This has been one of the most supportive places I have ever been. I found MDJ by mistaking looking for drs to help me with my many health issues and since that day over a year ago I have found a tight nit little family that keeps me going when the times are tough and offers me a place of retreat to share my successes and failures with others. I get to see the humor and seriousness of what I experience as well as the resources to learn about my health conditions. Thanks MDJ" (peasha)

Actually the title should be: Substituting Geodon for Seroquel I think? My brain just doesn't work anymore.

Should I just let sleeping dogs lie? I think I could continue to tolerate the Seroquel until I can just wean off of it (if ever)... I have just read so many bad things about Geodon? My pdoc recommended replacing the Seroquel with it.

I currently take 400mg Seroquel at bedtime but it doesn't last to the next dose. I did try the xl version but it was like I was taking nothing! It did not work. Not sure why.

Any experiences?

Jen

Hi Jen,

I've been on Geodon once. In my experience, I had a hard time staying awake (I took it 2x per day) and eventually it stopped working and I heard voices once again. It could work for you since everybody is different. If you wean off of seroquel, make sure your pdoc has you do it gradually by decreasing the dosage. Mine had me do it cold turkey and it has been hell trying to adjust. I'm now starting to adjust to taking tylenol pm. I liked seroquel b/c I was able to sleep, but my pdoc wanted me off of it b/c it can cause weight gain. Goodluck and let us know how it goes.

I'm an Advocate

After my bad experience with Abilify I was put on Geodon, it sucked so bad. I could barely function. I dont like the zombie feeling but it was even worse I couldnt stay awake for the life of me and I took it at bedtime so you would think it wouldnt effect me as much during the day but it did. Like I always say everyone reacts differently to meds so that is just my experience. My pdoc said you either have the effect I had or it works its pretty blunt. I was taken off of it immediately. Good Luck in making your decision.
