MDJunction to me

jpcrps"When I found MD Junction, I was in the beginning stages of RSD/CRPS. I was scared, lacked knowledge about the condition, and felt very alone.

MD Junction changed all of that for me. I found friendship and terrific information from people who had first-hand knowledge of this syndrome. It was and still is a big part of my life.

MDJ was my first step on the journey of grief; from denial to acceptance. I am now inspired to help others by sharing this amazing site and sharing my own experiences. I am very impressed that one forum site can provide hope and inspiration to people suffering from so many different conditions. I am proud to be a part of this community.

Hey Guys ......happy Easter (late) and happy Friday! Just one more hour and I get to head for home. Re: Lamictal: I just started this medication 2 weeks ago. So far the only thing it seems to have afftected is my sleep pattern. It seems like when I can finally dose off at night, I wake up every little while. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Lynndy,

Mood stabilizers and antipsychotics are both known for causing vivid dreams. The same thing happened to me after I started taking Depakote and Risperdal.

However, it's no longer an issue. Thanks to my Trazodone, I sleep very well and do not remember my dreams.

Hi gline23,

Those sound like pretty severe and scary side effects and not usual for Lamictal. If you haven't already I would strongly suggest you put in a call to your pdoc right away. I'm sure she/he would want to know.

Be safe,

Mark

HI MissHildy,

Great questions.

I don't know the answer to your questions but for me it has gotten worse with age. Not a lot but def worse.

I wish it would show up on a brain scan or some other objective test. I hate the subjectivity of the way it's diagnosed now.

Mark

With each hypomanic and manic episode, brain cells are destroyed.

If left untreated, BP can become progressively worse as one ages since symyptoms are not being controlled with meds. My tdoc explained that this has to do with the amount of seratonin and dopamine in the brain.

Its true....every manic episode permanently damages the frontal lobe, the part of the brain that deals with impulse and behavior control, the concept of consequences, etc. It is the part of the brain that's under-developed in teenagers, which is why they often make impulsive decisions and use poor judgment.

Exactly. It is also well known that each manic episode that one experiences (without meds) becomes worse than the one before.

In my case, the manic/psychotic episode I had in 2006 was bad enough. I can't imagine anything worse. Sad

I did not know that a manic episode permanently damages the frontal lobe, that's concerning. As for BP getting worse with age, I'm still a younging, but I see the difference. I believe I have had Bipolar disorder since I was a teenager.

I think I was a lot more functional then. Then I was more manic than depressed, which caused some trouble moodswing wise, but I was still able to be super productive. I noticed after college, this disorder got harder to deal with day to day. The depression part is really what gets me at times (pessimistic, no motivation, lack of concentration, etc).

I hate it! Especially the no motivation part. I feel lazy when I get caught up in that if I'm making sense.

I'd so rather be the good manic over depression any day.

I'm the opposite of Jessy. I did show signs of mania during my teens, but I was primarily depressed.

It wasn't until age 35 that I was diagnosed with BP after experiencing my first manic/psychotic episode.

The attending pdoc who oversaw my case at the time (2006) told me that he thinks I've had BP for many years and that my deafblindness masked my symptoms. My pdoc and tdoc also think I've had BP since age 20 since that's when I started showing clear signs of the disorder.
