Hi all,

Seems I haven't been on here in forever. My spouse had a stroke, then diagnosed with prostate cancer, then learned my father was at end stage prostate cancer. Spent last November-December helping care for dad. He passed December 29. Came back home and jumped right into supporting my spouse with a lengthy prostate cancer radiation treatment. I have Muscular Dystrophy. It has been relatively stable until the last year and a half of stress hell mentioned above. Stress can exascerbate Muscular Dystrophy, and that may be the only cause of my rapid muscle deterioration. However, I started Lamictal at the beginning of the above ride. I've read that Lamictal can cause muscle problems. Anyone out there on Lamictal experienced muscle loss? Thanks!!

Wow, you've gone through so much. I'm sure you have experienced quite a bit of stress and a myriad of emotions because of your father dying and now your spouse is sick, too. I haven't noticed any muscle loss because of the lamictal, but I understand your concern. Do the doctors have a way of testing your muscle loss? I suppose even if they do, they don't know whether to contribute it to the Muscular Dystrophy or the lamictal. It will be interesting to see what others have to say. I'd like to know myself. Welcome back!

Thanks so much, InvisibleMe. It's nice to be back among those who understand, to hear from you and for your concern. Thank you. As for testing muscle loss, they can do what's called a CPK test. CPK is an enzyme found in muscle tissue. If the serum levels are high, that means your muscles are breaking down. Will keep you posted. Smile

I'm an Advocate

You have been through a butt load of stuff! You are a strong person. I'm glad you came back for support, it's the best place to get it! I take Lamictal and don't have any side effects from it, anything is possible though. I hope you can get down to the bottom of it and find out what it is. I'm sorry for your loss. That's hard to deal with. You are among people that care. Welcome back!!
