MDJunction to me

Sylvia4648"I have suffered from depression most of my life, but had some long, non-depressed times. The last 16 years have been an on-going, constantly worsening nightmare for me medically, socially and with my family. 11/2008 to the present has been the worst time in my life, and new things just keep piling up. During that time I’ve gone from being mostly homebound to being totally homebound due to the errors of about 2 dozen doctors who overmedicated me so badly that I came home w/ 4 conditions I didn’t go in with. I spent months wanting to die, and finding MDJ may well have saved my life. It’s one of the worst feelings to know that nobody on earth needs you for anything; but now that I’ve been a group leader for awhile, there are people here who need me. Thanks MDJ." (Sylvia4648)

First Question: What is the official name for Geodon?

Second Question: I am up to 75mg of Lamictal and getting ready to go up to 100. I still am not sleeping very well. The first two weeks were hell as I went hypomanic and didn't sleep a bit. Never want to do that again. I have fibromyalgia so the lack of sleep and interrupted sleep is really getting to me. I am taking an herbal supplement and get 3 or 4 hours of good sleep and then I am tossing and turning. It sucks. Any ideas? My doctor says when I get to 100mg that I should start to sleep better, is this true? Is there something I can take to help me sleep that will mix okay with the Lamictal?

Third Question: I notice some people take Dexedrine. I take Methelphenidate and wondered if Dexedrine is for the same ADD issues?

When do you take your lamictol? At night or during the day? I was taking mine t night and it was making it hard to sleep i switched to taking it during the day and that seems to have helped a little. Are you taking melatonin along with it?

I take lamictal 300mg and Zyprxa 20 mg . The zyprexa makes me sleep like a baby. I can actually get up to 12 hours of sleep on it.
You are not drunk unless you have to hang on while lying on the floor.

The official name for Geodon I believe is Geodon. There is no generic for it. I have not had that problem with the Lamictal. I have hear that some people get a little hypo-manic, but that it goes away in time. I take Dexedrine for wakefulness, focus, and concentration. I do believe it is an ADD medication, although I do not have ADD that I know of. I hope this helps you. You will like it here and you can learn a lot. Welcome to the group!

Ziprasidone is the other name for Geodon. I take my lamictal in the morning to avoid the insomnia it can cause. I can't take stimulants, so I can't answer the 3rd one.

I haven't heard of Geodon. I'm on 600 mg lamictal and 1800 mg lithium (I know, they're high). I take Trazadone 100 mg for sleep. It helps me fall asleep right away, but I still have issues staying asleep.
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is that quiet voice inside that says, "I will try again tomorrow."

Lamictal 300mg
Seraquel XR 150mg
Topamax 50mg (titrating to 100 mg)
Clonazepan 0.5 (bd as needed for anxiety)

Have you tried sleep aids like rozerem or lunesta. Rozerem is a melatonin agonist that is non-addictive. Worth asking your doctor about.
Zyprexa 2.5 mg
Lithium 450 mg
Klonopin 0.125 mg
Lunesta 3 mg

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the answers. I went up to 100mg two days ago and I am really pleased with the results. I have had numerous depressive episodes for 30 years and this last one has been going on almost two years. The Lamictal has been a huge improvement and I noticed a difference right away. With the exception of going hypomanic the first week I really like Lamictal.

I have only taken two 100mg doses and haven't slept well still. I emailed my doctor this morning and she has been keeping up with me during the month I have spent getting to 100mg. She suggested I take 1mg of Klonopin as that is what I was on before I started the Lamictal. I hate to go back to the Klonopin but I really miss my sleep. I might trying taking it in the morning to see how it goes. I checked on-line to see how the two interact and some say it isn't wise to mix the two and others say it is fine. I almost never take more than 1mg and sometimes I will take 1 1/2 mgs. I also noticed that some folks here take both Lamictal and Klonopin. What are your thoughts about mixing these two drugs. I know you guys are not doctors, just wondering if there are folks who take both.

Thanks for the supports and sorry it took so long to get back on the forum. I got email notices for the first post but this one didn't tell me anyone had replied. Weird. I will keep checking back because I really need a good nights sleep as I have a sore throat. Darn it...

I haven't had that combination before, but like you said, a lot of people here on the forum take them together. You need your sleep, though, so even if you're taking it temporarily until you see the doctor, I'm sure it's fine. The doctor would have told you if they conflicted with each other. If you still doubt, you can always ask a pharmacist.
