I started on the low dosage of lamictal only last week, slowly working up. Till then I was only on lexapro, which nearly sent me insane!! I'm still having awful problems sleeping and today for instance, I feel VERY anxious, restless and irritable. I have some xanax left that the GP gave me with the lexapro. I had to take 2 the other night (only 0.25mg each) to calm me down, as I felt quite distressed, anxious with an awful headache. I wonder should I ask my GP for more xanax for when these incidents occur. They do help calm me. I haven't got my psych appointment till 3 March! What are other people on in addition to Lamictal for these symptoms? They are quite distressing when they get worse. I hate feeling that way!

I'm sorry your anxiety is so high right now. Is there any way you can see your psychiatrist sooner? If not, definitely talk to your GP about how you're feeling and see what they say about giving you more Xanax and increasing the dose for when you are feeling this way.

I'm on 1 mg of Klonopin at night for anxiety and 0.5 mg during the day as needed. The extra daytime dose helps me tremendously.

Bipolar Type II diagnosed in April of 2010.

Currently taking:
Lamictal 250 mg
Abilify 8 mg
Klonopin 1 mg and an additional 0.5 mg as needed
Ambien 10 mg

I think it's the Lexapro that may be causing all of this, but I'm not certain because of course I'm not a doctor. I just know that when you are on one without a mood stabilizer, it can make you manic and edgy. I know you just started Lamictal, but it's still getting in your system. I would probably ask for more Xanax maybe in the meantime, but be very careful with your usage. It's highly addicting. I'm sorry you even have to go through this at all. I take Lexapro, but I don't have any side effects from it. I wish you the best and I hope you can get something to calm you down some. Good luck!

I use clorazepate for my anxiety during the day because it doesn't make me as tired at Xanax. I will take a Xanax before bed, though, in order to get to sleep.

I have realized that when on Lamictal, I get very restless. Unable to stay still, unable to fall asleep, etc. But that's just my personal experience.

My dctor gave me Zyprexa. I take 20mg every night and sleep like a baby. I have klonopin to but you quickly develope a tolerance to it and it does not work any more. It is also very addictive and the withdrwawl is terrible. However after saying that...I do have a prescription of klonopin. I very the dose so I do not build up a tolerance to it. Once I get to taking 4mg a day..I back off 1 mg for a week ..then 2 mg for a week. then I build up to the full dose again. It works for me. Great for anxiety.

If lamictal is causing folks to not sleep well, try taking it in the am. That's what I do. Much better.
