Hi all,

I am BP II, ultra rapid cycling which has been made 1000x worse by wellbutrin. I just started Lamictal and Klonopins yesterday and I'm wondering how long it will take for me to see an effect?

I'm on the slow ramp up but good god I need some relief. I will cycle 5 or 6 times a day sometimes. Anything and everything will set me off. I'll be fine all day (happy-ish?), then i'll be tired and groggy, then insensely irritable and lashing out at the smallest most mundane things, 10 mins later I'm apologizing and trying to smooth things over. Obviously this is creating HUGE problems on my relationship and my boyfriend is all but ready to walk.

As we all know, we can't stop it ourselves so now I that I've finally acknowledged my problem and am getting proper treatment - I just want relief. Anyone on this combo that found it sucessful?

TIA Smile

Lamictal can take up to 4-6 weeks to fully start working. I've been on it since August, and it was about September that my mood started levelling off a bit. Sadly, I was on too low a dose, but that's finally getting increased to the proper amount.

Unfortunately, it's just a waiting game. You may experience results faster, but I'd plan on the 4-6 week mark, just so you don't give up on it. Almost everyone on here that's on Lamictal is really positive about it, so just hang in there with us.

Welcome! I have Bipolar I Disorder and an Ultradian Rapid Cycler once I gained stability on Lithium my cycling also leveled out as well thankfully. Give your meds time, its all about trial and error with the meds. Once you stabilize you will notice a world of difference all around and feel an overwhelming sense of happiness. Best of luck and keep on postin. Smile

Welcome. Just keep talking to your BF. Keep him in the loop, so that he knows what to expect.

Here`s hoping your meds stabilize soon. .T.

Any advice or comment from me is just my personal opinion.

Welcome to the group! This is a great place where you will find support, help and listening ears whenever you need. You're not alone in this, keep reaching out and we'll be here Smile

It is a hectic ride you're on now, I so understand where you're at. I am a very rapid cycler as well, was in a similar space when I started on Lamictal. It worked within a few days, I guess I was lucky. Not sure what dose you're on? Give it a few days and see. I also take an anti-anxiety, similar to Klonopin. The 2 meds worked well to get some balance so that I could function.

Now that you know what's wrong, explain to your b/f that it was out of your control before, but that you're doing something about it now. You can apologise for your behaviour, but you don't have to apologise for having BP. Help him to understand that it will get better and ask him to please be patient. Or whatever your way is of expressing yourself, you know what I mean.

Hang in there, it will get better! Keep us posted on how things go. Hugs, Bridget Smile

For me Lamictal took about 2 weeks to finally get a feeling that everything worked ok. I also take Klonopin. Klonopin should start working really quickly. I wish you the best of luck with your new meds and hope that you are feeling some relief soon.
Abilify 2 mg at bedtime
Klonopin 8 mg 2mg 4x daily
Cymbalta 60 mg 1 during the day
Lamictal 300 mg 2 during the day, one at bedtime
Luvox CR 100 mg in the morning.
Simvastatin - High Cholesterol bedtime
Metoprolol - High Blood Pressure 2 x during the day

If I remember rightly, my Lamictal worked quickly, but it's been a long time. I also take Abilify; they work well together. When my pdocs added the other meds and took away the Wellbutrin, I became very happily stable and have been for almost four years. I hope it all works out for you very soon - let us know!

Abilify
Cymbalta

I have been on Lamictal twice over the years and each time it worked within a week. I noticed a difference the first day I was on it. My attitude was so much better.

My daughter found that Lamictal worked very quickly as well. But in some, it can take longer and you should give it plenty of time. Stacey: BTW I've seen you mention "Ultradian Rapid Cycler" a few times. What exactly is that? Is it a form of hypomania? A degree of hypomania? Or something altogether different?Ermm
