MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

Good Morning y'all, how is everyone today? it's 540AM, I want to go back to bed and can't, have to be at work at 8, and it takes me a while to get to sleep.

Colleen, I don't believe being a alcoholic makes it any easier and in a lot of ways makes it harder, if the alcohol isn't addressed, then the bipolar is much more likely not to be treated.

For me, the sobriety came first, then the diagnosis, being sober made it a little easier to control the swings, but didn't make it totally possible.

Thanks for the congrats Carmen; couldn't have done it without AA, even though I'm not actively going to meetings anymore; my 12 Step work is only by online group these days.

Also thank you for the info about the other group; I wil definitely check that out.

Thanks again.

your welcome Colleen, I don't attend meetings near as much as I probably should..still do on occasions, sometimes people think that they are helping their sobriety by attending meetings every night, but what they are doing is substituting one thing for another, alcoholism was taking them away from their families and now the AA is, it's important to find a balance between the two, I know that when I came out here to South Carolina it became harder to go, the meetings are few and far between, and not a lot around, times are a challenge to be able to get too with the work schedule, the locations are 15 and 25 miles away..lol.. that is one thing that I miss about California, there you could find a meeting on just about every corner, and at any hour of the day..

I completely agree with you about trading one addiction for the other. Perfectly understandable in early sobriety but the whole point is to live a health life.

I have this thing about people pushing meetings anyway because it doesn't say anything in the BB about going to meetings or you won't stay sober.

Have a good day at work, or at least try

As alcoholics, we're already in trouble, because we have the addictive personality, alot go from drinking to becoming workoholics, etc.. I've never seen either where it stated the required amount of meetings, it's left up to the individual, I know that early on in sobriety, we are encouraged to attend as many as possible, and I know that we probably should attend regularly, as added strength to our commitment to ourselves and our sobriety..

I don't know what I would do if the hubby started drinking again, whether I would stay or leave, my sobriety is important, that is why I didn't fly out right away to meet him, I wanted him to have a year at least.
