I just found out I've been diagnosed with Bipolar II for the last four years from my new pdoc. Apparently my old pdoc didn't think I needed to know. I'm really angry! I could have spent the last four years learning about and adjusting to the disorder rather than thinking all I had was PTSD, and waiting for the four years of therapy to cure me. Anyone else have this problem?

Welcome to the group, I am glad you have found us. This is a very supportive group. I think it stinks that you were diagnosed so late but at least you know now and should just start focusing on getting the correct med combo to stabilize yourself and start feeling better. Stress is a major trigger so try not to let it bother you so much about your previous pdoc. Smile

Welcome to the group! I'm new here too. I had been diagnosed with depression for almost 15 years before the bipolar type II diagnosis. I think there were two factors: 1. My condition did change from what it originally was. I did not have many of the bipolar tendancies at age 13 that I did at 28. 2. I did not allow my doctors to see certain things that were bipolar red flags. Once I did the diagnosis was made. I've wondered about wasted time but we can't change the past.

I feel the same way, I was diagnosed a long time ago with anxiety and depression before I was diagnosed with BP II, I kept alot of symptoms from the dr's mostly due to embarrassment. At first I just kept thinking if I had opened up before I could have been stable alot longer but you are right you cant dwell on the past you can only move onto the future.

Welcome to the group.

I can relate. For years I was treated for depression until I revealed symptoms classic to BP disorder and was diagnosed two years ago. Despite the ups and downs of this disorder, I am thankful I was diagnosed. I always knew I had more issues than just depression even though it took me a bit to recognize that. Good thing there's a name to what I go through.

On another note, feel free to vent, ask questions, etc. I'm glad that you found us!Smile

Hello. I was diagnosed with major depression (later add ADHD) for 23 years. Only found out it was really bipolar II last October.

I always just thought the energetic, bubbly, overachiever was the real me. I called it the real me, they call it hypomania. LOL

Lisa

My advice is purely personal. I am not a Doctor and there is NO substitute for getting proper medical diagnosis and advice.

Bipolar II, Depressed Severe

Lamictal 400 mg
Seroquel 150 mg
Effexor 150 mg
Inderal 10 mg
Ambien 5 mg
Lithium 1200 mg
