If i would have known that i could have relief from my mood swings when i was younger i would have had done the hysterectomy in my 20's. i suffered, in and out of mental hospitals. every kind of medication, ECT treatment, multiple suicide attempts. many years lost in madness. if any women has bipolar, thyroid desease from lithium, perimenopause/PMS all going at the same time and you already have had all of the children you're going to have a hysterectomy/overectomy just might be the fix. I still have orgasms. I just dont want to die anymore and you have to stay on your bp meds always as per your dr. it might not be the "fix".

but it could make things better.

Read "The Bipolar Handbook" by Wes Burgess and get A PDR (Physicians Desk Reference Handbook). We need to know about our Bipolar and about our medications.

I am reading "The Bipolar Handbook" by Wes Burgess as we speak. I just started reading it tonight.

I'm 31 now. I had a hysterectomy in my late twenties. About a year after the birth of my 4th and last child.

I have not taken hormones.

I will say I do think irregular periods and hormone surges contributed to my very bad episodes. I still have very bad episodes, just not quite as often.

The rollercoaster doesn't come around as much but it still rolls. Know what I mean?

Oh and the orgasms are still fantastic LOL It took me about 3 weeks after the surgery to be able to orgasm though.

I am glad to hear that things have worked out for you, it's tough enough being a woman never mind having the bipolar going on.
