I just found this place yesterday and already feel more at home than I have with people in a long time. So let me tell you a bit about me.

My name is Robin. There has always been an emotional issue for women in my family and I certainly was no exception. At the age of 12, I attempted suicide for the first time. I often would scar and carve my wrists and ankles. I always found that it was easier to handle physical pain over emotional. I have two tattoos...go figure.

The summer after my Freshman year in College, I was in a major accident and was flown flight for life to a hospital that specialized in head trauma. I was diagnosed with BP II 4 months later. The doctors felt that the accident triggered the onset, though I always had it. There is a history of it in my family as well. My Great Grandmother was committed because she had it.

I went through several abusive, both physical and mental relationships. When I met my husband I knew he was the one for me after I had an all out cycle from one extreme to the other and he stayed beside me. I have three wonderful children now, a girl who is 9 and two boys - 6 and 3. I fear that my 6 year old has BP. I have been researching symptoms related to child BP and he meets it to the T.

My relationships are a constant battle to maintain.

I tend to hide it from most people as so many either make snap judgements or minimize it. I have a hard time keeping my cool with my family sometimes. I have realized that there are certain "triggers" that my husband and children do that will set me off. I am trying to learn how to handle these and avoid them as well as make them aware.

I currently am on Lamictal and Effexor. This is my fourth set of meds since 1996. I have been on them for three years. I seem to have issues with stress and when I usually see my doctor, the symptoms seem to go away or I am really stressed out.

Well, I guess that is the start of me...I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and finding others who are like me and understand me.

Hi Robin, and welcome to the group, we are glad to have you here and look forward to your posting, it's wonderful that you are learning what your triggers are, keep a journal and write down these stressors as they happen, that way when you go to see your doctor you have something to refer back too, your therapist can help you to figure out a coping method for when you find yourself up against one of the triggers..

I am on the Lamictal, and so far it is doing just wonderful for me.

We have a great bunch of people here, I am sure they will see you in the posts and add to anything you would like to know.

Carmen
